Mudflaps Mud Flaps Vs. Toyota 4runner

So, I think we figured out what has caused the serious deformation of our right mud flap. It is now clear to us it is actually being melted by the Toyota's exhaust! See images below.

Our TV is a 2008 Toyota 4Runner, and I am not sure if this is common to only this model year or inclusive of others. The exhaust pipe points straight back towards the mud flap. I'm not sure if another mud flap material would make a difference or not. Anyone else with a 4Runner planning to use these mud flaps should evaluate their vehicle's exhaust location.

We really like having the option to travel with the mud flaps on, especially when planning to travel off pavement. I am going to have my "Yodaman" off-road guy see if he can modify the exhaust pipe, maybe by simply adding an exhaust tip to re-vector the heat. I will keep you posted.

Ah yes, that problem. When I got my mud flaps it was clear that the exhaust was going to be a problem on our Xterra. I had a muffler shop fabricate a 90 degree bend and then a clamp on turn-down tip to route the exhaust to the side. No problems in a lot of miles.

Thanks! That's what I was thinking. I'll see what my guys can come up with and repost solution once done.
