Pulled the trailer down to Eddyville, KY to see the eclipse. Lucked out and found a campground with a cancellation that was right in the path of Totality! Trip down took 7 hours - a bit longer than usual.
We (my daughter and I) were able to set up the tripods on a basketball court about 50 yards from the campsite. The experience of a total eclipse is truly one of those events that is unlike anything I've ever seen - just incredible. You can understand how primitive peoples would have thought that things in the world weren't quite right...
The drive home took 10 hours, with bumper to bumper traffic on Interstate 57 much of the way - but worth it.

I am glad you were able to see it. We also made a 1500 mile trip into Oregon for the event; not so bad seeing as many have traveled half way around the world to see it. We camped in a National Forest campground in the far north east corner of California, got up at 2am, then drove up into Oregon north of Prinville to set our chairs in a small county park to watch. I wish I had been more prepared to catch a couple of photos, but I am happy to see yours.
 
Worth the trip, right? Glad you made it. There's another Total Eclipse that will cross the same southern Illinois city on April 8, 2024. But that eclipse arcs closer to Chicago - very close to Indianapolis, IN.
If we make that event I'll be sure to arrive a day or two earlier and leave a day or two later...
 
Math geek in my loves that the moon exactly fits the size of the sun even though they are VASTLY different sizes. Great pics by the way.
 
We took Snugglebug down to Clarksville, TN to my aunt and uncle's house. They live 6 miles away from the sweet spot of maximun totality. Great photos, Ken. I tried to get some with my iPhone through eclipse glasses... nope.
 
Evan, it was easily the most incredible thing I've seen. I downloaded an app that announced various times to take note of, and it was accurate to the second! That by itself amazes me - how do they DO that?
 
A cloud jumped in front of it just before it went into totality here in Anderson, SC but thinned enough for us to see it through the cloud for about 45 seconds. If we had been in some different places in town we have seen the whole thing, but on the other hand I know people never got to see it. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

That almost happened to us, too. At about 3 minutes before totality there was a decent sized cloud heading right at it. Luckily it dissipated in time.
 
Great photos, Ken! Thank you for sharing! We didn't have near the experience here in Texas, but the drop in temperature & change in the sun/daylight outside was unlike anything I've ever seen......not just dimmed, but a totally different "feel" to the light.....I don't really know how to describe it, but it was very strange.

Thanks Casandra - it is tough to describe isn't it? Another cool thing was during Totality the clouds at the horizon were still in bright sunshine...!
 
WOW! I can't believe I didn't see one other Camp Inn our whole 2800 mile round trip from NH to Eddyville KY!! I knew there just had to be someone towing one of these near by!

It was an incredible experience! Not to mention a road trip of a lifetime for me, my wife and 2 year old in a Camp Inn towed by a mini. I was so emotional when I finally saw the eclipse enter totality... mostly because it was so beautiful, but also I was so glad we had no issues with weather, camper or car on the trip down.

I did a blog of our whole trip and I'm happy to share with you all if you are interested in seeing how we did... we certainly got some looks and several thumbs up! Note.. the blog works best thru Google Chrome if looking at it on a desktop or laptop computer. For some reason Internet Explorer super sizes the photos.. or you can just get the app..

We ate dinner at the Eddy Creek Resort Marina the night before the eclipse! We stayed at Holiday Hills Resort, just 2.5 miles from there. Looks like you had quite a road trip! Cora will be an old pro for the next eclipse!

NO way! That's too funny... we had dinner there the night before as well. I was sitting there with the family about 5:00 or so depressed at the clouds that rolled in that evening thinking that tomorrow's "Partly Cloudy" forecast was gonna ruin it.... but thankfully it didn't... if I had seen another Camp Inn I would have been floored! I guess that's the good thing about them... you park it and take the car on your adventures! Looks like a nice place... kind of with we stayed there.. And absolutely can't wait for the next one!! Boy I wish we ran into each other but who would have known!
 
Small world!

Some clouds appeared that looked like they might block the totality with about 3 minutes to the start - but they thankfully dissolved.

Nice to see and meet you!! And your photos of the corona are stunning! Very well done. We took the advice to not fiddle with any cameras for our first eclipse... but I did have to grab a quick video of the 360 sunset! That took me off guard... in a great way..
 
I've heard people say to forget about taking photos and enjoy the eclipse, and there's a lot to be said for that. I had to try...

The next one travels across the same area, but heads up much closer to home after, so we hope to catch it without as much time spent getting there and back.

It was a fun trip and some rare one on one time with my daughter :)
