Water in the galley bin

Mick'nSarah

Junior Ranger
Hi all-

Just a little something we noticed today, while Mick was working on a project on Dottie. He had pulled up the false floor in the galley bin, under our sink. I noticed the wood had been wet. Upon further inspection, it seems the water is coming through the hard pipe the LP line runs through, and into the galley.

Here are a couple of pictures to show what we saw:
leak1.jpg

The pipe there, where the LP line runs in, is collecting the water, probably as we drive

leak2.jpg

It goes down the pipe, and empties into the bin under the sink

Has anyone else had a similar issue? Mick is planning to use some silicone to fill up the hole near the LP tank to keep the water out. Is this the recommended course of action?

Thanks for any advice!

Not yet. We just discovered it this morning. I thought I would try the forum first. They always seem to get back to people pretty quickly here. If I don't hear anything, I might shoot them an email or a call.

Found some water marks in the lower right storage bin in the galley. Could have been overflow from cleaning the sink and counter tops. Keeping an eye on it.

We have found water twice in the right bottom bin, both times after driving through significant rain. Talked with Cary after the second time because we wondered if water was splashing up into the bin. He did not think this was the case but - I think this is it - water was being drawn through the seal where the hatch meets the counter (not the hatch hinge). He suggested we adjust the seal, which I didn't quite understand. So, we figured we'd stop by Necedah the next time we were in the neighborhood. Since the second time, we've driven through rain without a problem. We don't have a sink so know that was not the problem in our case. Kathy

Kathy,

You do have the stove though and this is the source of Sarah's problem. If I understand her correctly, the hose from the propane tank in front is acting like a funnel to underneath the back storage bin for the water. You will not see the water unless you remove the floor of the bin to see what is underneath.

My camper is in storage so I cannot check it right now but will check it before IRG. It will be interesting to see what the folks at Camp Inn say.

The LP line is a flexible line, that they have placed inside a stiff metal pipe (I am guessing this is for protection and to keep it up against the underside of the trailer). The LP line is slightly smaller than the pipe, as you can see best in the first picture. It looks like water has been working its way down the protective metal tube into the galley bin. In the second picture you can see a copper coloring that looks like it has run across the wood (and has stained the inside of the pipe as well), right where that metal pipe comes into the galley bin. This is where the most 'wet' was seen, but has spread a bit from there.

Hear what you're saying, Joan; had not quite understood what Sarah was describing, but it makes sense. Will look at it further. Thanks, Kathy

Jim says water could be entering the copper pipe near the tongue when the CI is towed in wet weather. The gap between the copper tube and the LP line allows water from the road to be forced through the gap by the air flow. The water pushes up the copper tube to flow the other end into the under galley storage area.

Possible solution: a little silicon sealer to fill in the gap. But Craig or Cary would have to check it out to see what the real cause of the water is for your CI. Jim is going to check on ours the next time it is out of storage...

Which will be soon as the baby is due tomorrow!!! YEAH!!!!!

Soon to Camp On,

Sue and Jim

Mick filled the external end (near the LP tank) with silicone to keep the water out. He thinks it has been doing this for a while, and it would explain why my barometer was always saying it was going to rain when I opened the hatch to the galley (I keep it on a shelf there...and there was a lot of condensation on that side as well). But then, we live in Oregon and we are always in the rain! We get to camp in the rain this next weekend, in fact (I am just jonesing to get back out...I am missing my little camper after being out with her for two weeks straight...having a hard time adjusting to being home!).

Happy baby, Jim and Sue! Hope things go well!
