We ordered our Camp-Inn June 2005 and were pleasantly surprised to pick it up a month early, April 2006. It was a long wait but definitely worth it. Meanwhile we put our popup for sale, never expecting it to sell, thinking we’d have it to use but fortunately it sold quickly and alas we were back in a tent for the summer of 2005.
In 2006 (15 nights), we camped at Blue Mound State Park for our maiden voyage. Explored Mt Horeb (troll town) and visited the Mustard Museum. While camping near the Dells in Wisconsin, we to see Dr. Evermor’s Forevertron, built in the 1980s, is the largest scrap metal sculpture in the world, standing 50 ft. high and 120 ft. wide, and weighing 300 tons. Quite the site to behold. We took a Jeep trip with the Telluride Rotary Club in Colorado and after spent some much needed time in the hot springs in Ouray. On the way home we stopped by the Genoa Wonder Tower on Interstate 70, which claims you can see 7 states (I think it was a gimmick).
In 2007 (18 nights), we started the year out attending Cooler near the Lake in Racine, Wisconsin. Traveled to Minden, Nebraska to attend ITG2 and Pioneer Village and Arch over 80. That summer we participated in the Mile High Jeep Club week long trail adventures held in Salida, Colorado. We also spent some time at Canon City & the Royal Gorge.
In 2008(24 nights), we again started the year of camping with Cooer near the Lake at Koehler-Andre State Park, Wisconsin and it was cold! There was snow in the parking lots and rain by day but enjoyed great company by the fire in the lodge. This year we did Route 66 in Illinois, starting at Joliet and going to the Chain of Rocks Bridge. We walked the mile span across the bridge over the mighty Mississippi river. Some of the sights along the way were – National Cemetery, Polka Dot Drive Inn, Krontz & Son General Store, Bill Sheas’s Garage-Gas Station. This year was the first time we hosted Tears by the River in Thomson, Illinois.
In 2009 (26 nights), we ventured back to Koehler-Andre to attend Cooler near the Lake. That summer we attended the Vintage Trailer Rally and later spent a week jeeping in Empire, Colorado. On the way to Empire we traveled through Rocky Mountain National Park and got to see first hand how devastating the pine beetles have been on the forest. Hosted Tears by the River 2 again in Thomson, Illinois.
In 2010 (27 nights), we camped early in the year, starting at Forestville State Park, Minnesota and Yellowstone Lake State Park, Wisconsin. We were signed up to attend IRG3 in California, but Tina’s gallbladder had other plans. Instead it was a trip to the hospital for surgery. So we took our Southern States trip for two weeks in November.
In between the above mentioned trips have been some quiet weekend trips and we attend the yearly Camp-Inn Camp-Out held at Castle Rock County Park, Wisconsin. It is always a fine time shared with good friends old and new.
