The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

Thanks. Great ideas. Being that we're basically winging it during the worst time of year to do that, having additional parks will improve our odds of snagging a campsite. And, they sound beautiful!
 
Hi Michael! Your story telling is wonderful. A forum friend, Mark, suggested my Michael and I read your chronicles. I just read this installment, pre-Dewey, and enjoyed it very much. We have just gone through the journey of decision-making. We were certain another trailer was the one...then we discovered Camp-Inn and our decision made a 180 degree turn toward a 560 Ultra. Michael is already retired and I am doing so next spring. Our order will be placed soon for an April 2015 delivery. We plan on being full-timers, traveling, working as needed, and re-discovering America. Anyway, we look forward to reading the rest of your story! And to report on ours as it unwinds. Michael and I have visited Seminole Canyon and Big Bend twice and also just loved these parks. So glad you got to experience them too. I am living vicariously through your posts! --Diane

So glad to hear that you're Innjoying The Dew Drop Inn Chronicles, happy to share. It's exciting to hear that a couple is going to take the plunge and full time in a Camp-Inn, we part timed through the winter and had a blast. We loved camping the off season in Texas, no rain, no bugs, no crowds, idyllic really. Looking forward to reading about your adventures. Here's hoping our paths cross someday, see you on the road!

Hi! Thanks for your note! I remember the painting from the Davis Mountain lodge when Michael and I traveled around the US, birding, in 1999. Nice to see it again!

Tonight we made a list of options we are interested in and tomorrow we drive to Pepperell, MA to visit Mark and his Camp-Inn Ultra -- we are so excited to meet Mark and see the Ultra up close and personal! I think it is so great that Camp-Inn owners are willing to show off their trailers! After seeing the trailer, I am sure our excitement level will skyrocket!!

April 2015 cannot come soon enough!

We camped at the Chisos Mountain campground in 1999/2000 and had javelina foraging right next to our tent! Also known as collared pecoraries! We didn't know whether to be alarmed or entertained by their proximity to our tent...turns out we were entertained for sure!

I once woke up when tent camping with elk snorting around my tent. They came out to graze at night. I decided to remain very quiet so as not to alarm them.
 
I was snug in my Camp Inn last summer in Yellowstone and woke up around 3:30-4:00am to the sounds of wolves howling. That was interesting and eerie and in the end super cool. Opened the windows wider and turned the fan off so I could hear better. The Lad was upset I didn't wake him for it.

Yes Jenn, I do like the hard sided teardrop with locked doors when wild critters are about, especially the ones with big teeth like these guys that we encountered going through our garbage at Davis Mountain SP in Texas.

Another Yellowstone story - back in 1991, after arriving late in the evening, we got all 4 kids ready for bed, to the bathroom for toothbrushing etc, and as we step outside to head back to the popup we come FaceToFace with a buffalo. Awesome and VERY scary at the same time. They all remember it vividly, even our youngest who was 3 at the time. Non-campers don't have stories like these ☺
 
We love our High Gear Smart Lite LED Lantern, it's very bright, it's USB rechargeable and even has a hand crank for emergencies. We use it when dry camping especially during overcast days when our solar panel isn't quite keeping up with our power usage.

We hang it up in the galley area or from the roof of our canopy. It has a high and low setting, it lasts for 4 hours on high and 10 hours on low on a full charge.

There is a lantern mode and a flashlight mode so it's very versatile. Best of all we can leave it on for hours and not worry about draining our battery! We bought it at REI for 35 bucks.

Michael, I am curious if you think you save power with your fridge cover? I am heading to the SW in about 2 weeks and I am thinking it will be running all of the time with the heat. What is your impression?

Also, can you remind me where you got yours?

If anyone else has info, please let me know!

I think there is a huge difference, don't hear the fridge run much at night, but I think it really helps when it's on it's table and the sun sneaks under the canopy in the mornings and afternoons, we always keep it zipped up tight, every little bit helps. We got ours at adventurerv.net under Dometic Cool Freeze Protective Cover for CF-35.

Had a humorous encounter with a civilian (non Camp-Inn owner) while camped at Fort Townsend SP. Susan and I were having lunch when we heard someone trying to get our attention from a ways off, couldn't quite hear what he was saying then finally he said loud enough for us to hear, "Is your trailer made by Airstream" we said no it's a Camp-Inn and he said darn cuz he had a bet with his wife that our trailer was an Airstream. He did recognize a quality product when he saw it. We gave him a brochure to console him. Who knows Camp-Inn could get a sale out of it.
