:) I did get the reference, but referring to Cuervo Gold is like referring to low-quality alcohol, which is what didn't make sense to me.

and I am sure they didn't mean Cuervo Gold to be a reference to high-quality tequila - so that is what I am not quite understanding about the song. Why does the singer/protagonist in the song refer to Cuervo (rather than Patron, for example)?

Actually the song's referring to Cuervo GOLD was because the GOLD was a big deal back in the day. Around the watering holes I hung around one would receive the house "tequila" unless you ordered the Gold. I didn't know that there was such a thing as fancy tequila until I joined this group. So, yeah, I think it was a sarcastic reference to the "Gold" being a big deal.

This may be a cultural thing because bourbon, taxed and otherwise, was our drink of choice. And whilst we were savoring the quality of Boone's Farm Strawberry wine, y'all were into Napa merlots.

That song is an oldie, but a goldie...
    Patron wasn't even born yet...
Isn't its main backer the Paul Mitchell Haircare business?
    John Paul DeJoria?

Oh, and Peg is online as I write this.

what I don't know about the Cuervo reference is whether Fagen was being sarcastic or if we was being serious.
Cuervo may have been a step above the basic tequila, but I don't think it was ever "top shelf" - not even on the east coast. ;)

But since no one really knew of any tequila other than Cuervo Gold, at the time.....

Maybe the dude in the song thinks he is a big cheese, since he drinks the Gold, but Fagen understood that he was not

Susan and I were pulling out of town yesterday on our way to Salt Creek Campground when we saw this SoCal 4 by 8.

We got a water front campsite, the Strait of Juan de Fuca is steps away and the big island (Vancouver Island) is our view. Frank was right, this is a beautiful spot and yes Frank is here with "Le Droppe" and his friend Garrett with his own teardrop, that makes 3 tears! Can't wait till Frank breaks out the blenders.

Our neighbors are nice, a little pushy but nice...

...apparently we had dropped a few cashew pieces about while snacking and it was his job to clean up after us, wouldn't take no or a shu for an
answer, finally took off when the food was all gone.

Uh oh, I think you're right Sarah, not only do we have to watch out for crazed bats with rabies we now have to stay clear of drunken raccoons! Take note all you potential PNW visitors this is a very dangerous and scary place.

Speaking of dangerous, look what Uncle Frank set up for us attendees, a tequila tasting! Now if you're talking smoothness then I think the Cazadores wins hands down but it has a complexity of flavors that I don't associate with the beverage of choice from south of the border. For me Milagro had the smoothness with the sour and bitterness that I like to taste in tequila. Now another scary aspect of the PNW is the liquor prices, ouch!! Spirit prices in Washington are easily double what folks in California pay. (tax on booze is bat crazy high here) So for now even though I like Milagro, I'll be sticking to my Cuervo. Thanks for the tasting Frank!

Garrett showed us his very sweet tear. It was custom made by a Canadian restaurant fixture contractor so the galley is a work of art in stainless steel.

Frank, is that the Red 12x12 pop up? I know you had a 16x16 as well. I am guessing that is the 12 x 12 but wanted to check.

I am trying to decide on a pop up now and just figuring out if I want a 10 x 10 or 12 x 12. I know for sure I am going with a straight leg and not a slant leg.

Love reading your chronicles -- always full of great news and info (a thread on tequila?! who would have thunk?!) and great photos! We have sooooo many places to visit that the excitement is almost too hard to bear!

Just bought a "roll top"/foldable table from a great outdoor outfitter store in ME. It's square, packs down to a carrying case and it was a demo model so we got a discount! Since we saw yours we had to get one! Nice addition to our new home-to-be!

    Best regards!

Those pictures look very familiar. I loved the park and thanks to Frank for recommending it. I wish I could have been there with you guys but I was gone almost two weeks and have to stay home and do some catch up getting ready for winter. Nice teardrop. It is fun to see what others have. Have fun everybody.

    Michael and Susan,
What a treat to meet up with you all... I never know who will actually show or not, so anyone is great.

    Tequila Taste Testing:... heheh
I didn't want to run "Ms RITA" due to the noise, camping with the Big Boys (RVs) is a PITA so close together, so we had to do it manually. The camp host was acting a little "Antsy" on Alcohol in the area, so deferred to Manual Labor. Heheh, never got to the "Margarita Mode", got stopped at the Taste Testing part.

    The line up

So my take on it is this.
Casa, the Antler One: Smooth, very nice, but too smooth

Mil, Blue bottle one: Smooth and a bit of a bite to it.

Jose, the Gold one: More bite, my preference for making margaritas. Case would be like eating "English Food"... not much taste.. heheh

My preference is to have sort of a "Bite" to it, much like liking/using hot sauce on stuff.

Good trip, thanks Michael and Susan for the Stew... it really saved the next day.. heheh..

    fun...

Pat, sorry you couldn't make it, but next time fer sure...

Here's the Google Version of it...

That "bite" you taste in the Cuervo? It's likely poison.

    Just warnin ya....
(Have you noticed that the bite is only present in the cheapest tequila you are pouring?)

    :)

If you want a bit more bite in your margarita, use the Cazad. Blanco. Blanco is for margaritas; gold is for sipping or for pouring over ice.

Instead of a taste test, try a headache test. The Cuervo guarantees a headache (thanks to the nonsense they add to their blend), whereas you get no headache from the Cazadores (YMMV, but this is what I have been told AND it has proved true, for me)

I am only trying to SAVE YOUR LIFE!

    :)

Heheh, yah, it was weird on the headache thing... I certainly earned one, but nothing... we, I, was alternating between the 3, one then the next, then the next... so not sure...
    But no headache....

I'll try the other Caza... and that will give me an excuse to try a few others too... Cabo Wabo who my friend swears by.. and Garrett had one in mind too... too many choices, so little time eh? heheh...

    Thanks Al,

Hi Jay, I think that's the big boy, the 16 by 16...congrats on your soon to be your's 560... welcome to the Camp-Inn family!

You are so welcome Diane and Michael, so happy to share and glad you find my ramblings and snapshots enjoyable and helpful, thank you for contributing to the Dew Drop Inn Chronicles yourself, looking forward to reading about your adventures.

Sorry we didn't camp together again Pat, plenty of opportunities on the horizon though huh... see you sometime soon I'm sure.

Glad you liked the stew Frank, the least we could do. Salt Creek is a lovely spot, thanks for introducing the place to the Dewey crew.

Heh Al, I appreciate you trying to save our lives...if expensive liquor is the ticket a case of this might guaranty it...

... good quality health insurance may be a better investment though.

    Sorry Jay,

I missed this... You need a 12x12 IMNSHO... a 12x12 becomes a 10x10 in the rain. 10x10 becomes an 8x8... most EZ-Tops, Shelter Logic or whatever 12x12 works 95% of the time, just remember in real wind you need to collapse the canopy part, ok to leave the frame up. When the winds die you can unfurl it. Just like a sail boat.
this is the 12x12 Monster with a high wind..

The one at Salt Creek is the "Monster 12x12" thicker posts and bigger stored footprint.

The 16x16 is truly a monster...
Here's a pic of it, only put it up once... While I can do it, it's too much for one person, moi anyway...

    More pics here
both have the side curtains, clear plastic 2ft from bottom up to see out... and not feel closed in.

    Hope this helps...

Mike and carol are giving us a northern breeze with the 560, but I think a pop up is what we will likely need most of the time. If camping in colder weather, rain, the nb would be the better choice, but for most stuff a pop up should work fine.

I just don't want something too overwhelming in size but provides enough useable shade. I guess I need to see both set up to see what will really work.

    Yah, Jay,

the popups area good for summers.... the 12s are about the same as the 10s as far as storage size and putting up.

Shelter Logic appear to be a little stronger I think.

they will all have a negative point in that when it rains, the rims will catch water instead of running off the sides... it fills up with puddles and then all of a sudden will drop the accumulated water. I haven't figured that one out yet, bungi cords or something.

Get the ones with the Rings for the fastener buttons over the push in buttons... much easier to pop in and pull out. to lock the legs. I don't know what the difference is on the straight leg compared to the slant leg, other that the slant might be a little more stable.

    Water dumps:

    Good luck...

You can't beat the Northern Breeze for heavy rain or a light drizzle. In Florida we survived a buckets from heaven rain event, stayed pretty dry with the flaps up because it was still warm.

    St George Is. Florida

We spent 6 whole days in a light drizzle at Humboldt Red Wood SP in Northern California ( is it any wonder why those trees get so big! ) with the flaps on the NB down and our Mr Heater on low, ( to conserve fuel ) we stayed toasty warm and dry. We put the awning out to cover the doors of Dewey so we could get to the galley without getting wet, slanted down to shed water better.

last tequila post: I believe Sammy (Hagar) made more $$ of Cabo Wabo than he did from his entire music career....

I was never much of a Sammy fan, simply because I didn't listen to that genre of music, but Sammy is a big fan/supporter of a young guitarist I like (Davy Knowles), so I support Sammy!!

I don't recall the price of the Cabo Wabo, but I think it is more than the Cazadores.

I believe you got no headache from your mix of tequilas because the Caz has magical properties. :)
