Itinerary Ragbrai 2020

What is RAGBRAI? It stands for the Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. RAGBRAI is an annual seven-daybicycle ride across the state. Heading into its 46th year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest multi-day recreational bicycle touring event in the world. (detailed Info can be found at RAGBRAI.COM)

In 2020 my wife and I are planning to do the ride once again. Will be our 5th time doing the ride. Third time with our Campinn. The ride is scheduled yearly the last full week in July. We thought it would be fun to do with a group of strictly Campinn owners. Overnight stays are typically done in parks or private residence in or near the host towns.

If there is enough interest we would spearhead the planning of the ride. If you have an interest please PM and include your email address and phone number...thanks Ron and Missy

Wow! Looked at the route and it is out of my league. Hope you find some folks to go.

Done RAGBRAI four times with Pork Belly Ventures outfitters. Sure would be fun with the Camp Inn. How challenging is it to find a place to park everyday? Do you work all that out in advance?

Yes..we wait until the route announcement party in January at which time they announce the host towns and then work on overnight options. We have stayed at state parks, Corp of Engineers sites, private residence and business. We prefer to have flush toilets and showers available, but have gone a night with using the portable loos and our road shower. We typically eat an early breakfast before we depart for the day, then a mid morn breakfast on the cycling route. Evening meal we typically eat in the host town or some other.town away from crowds. We just eat our way across Iowa and the cycling is just a distraction!

Thanks. Do you get reservations in advance for each overnight town? Finding food on RAGBRAI is never an issue :) I usually avoid the commercial vendors and try to eat in churches, farms, etc. anywhere they are trying to raise money. The search for the best pie is my favorite sport. The only 400 mile bike tour where you can gain weight! :)

Yes I will make arrangements ahead. They tend to rotate the area the ride takes place, (southern, middle and northern routes) Last year was across the middle.of the state, this year it is southern Iowa, 2020 anticipating northern Iowa. Only one night did we not.have reservations or an overnight arranged and some nice people who we didnt even know offered us a place in their yard and a hookup for our airconditioner.( that's Iowa). We always look for a place with at least electrical as air conditioning is a must in July.... thats the beauty of the Campinn, doesn't draw much..R

Have always wanted to do this ride.

And if you are interested in riding in SC, I help put on a ride called Issaqueena's Last Ride. 3rd week in April is always our date for the ride and we are 75-80 for a Day time temp then so for those of you in cooler climates, you can get a jump on your outdoor cycling. It does go into the mountains on our longer routes with one pretty serious climb. Shorter routes don't climb. I am the person who maintains the Facebook page for the ride.
