Pre IRG

I left yesterday for the trip down to IRG. First stop was the Valley of the Rogue State Park just south of Grants Pass, just off of I5. And when I say 'just off', I mean just off. This is the only drawback to this lovely state park, highway noise. I stayed in the F loop and would recommend that if you stay here, you get a campsite nearest the river. There is less noise.

This was a one night stop for me but Bailey and I went for a walk along the river in the morning. There is also a nice paved path great for biking. I would like to explore it more.

P.S. The bathrooms are really nice. The best I have been in so far on my Camp Inn excursions. The park also has electric and water hookups.

Re: IRG

Hey, Joan! We stayed here in March and agree with your assessment: great restrooms, scenic walk, highway noise & really convenient. Loved the pictures. See you in a few days. Kathy

Re: IRG

Do you have to pass a rest area to get to the campground? If so, we stayed here on the way to the IRG in 2010. But we stayed in the parking lot of the rest area, as it was about 11:00pm or so when we arrived & we were leaving at 5:00am.

Yep, lots of traffic noise & idling semis. I have since heard from a few different people that this is not one of the safest places to overnight (in the rest area, that is).

The campground looks beautiful.

Re: IRG

We are currently in a little town called Gold Beach doing laundry, ughh, but essential as we have been on the road for 9 days now and then will continue south on 101 to IRG.

Having a great time so far and no problems with getting into the state parks along the coast. Stayed last night in Humbug State Park. Very nice and clean, and oh so quiet!

Re: IRG

Before IRG, I stayed at the Redwoods RV Resort for a couple of days. It was a nice RV park:

While I was there, I took a couple of scenic drives. My favorite was Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Do not take your trailer on this drive. Very narrow dirt road with traffic both ways. The pictures don't do it justice. I later learned at IRG that I should have been lying on the ground looking up in order to take pictures of the Redwoods:

I also took a scenic drive farther down the coast, again on a road not recommended for trailers. Had some lovely views:

Just a comment about RV parks. I am finding that I like the state parks much better. This was a lovely park but I think for liability purposes, it had these huge street lights. I prefer to be places where it gets pitch dark at night so you can see the stars.

That campground with the idling semis...yeah, we've been there, too. Found it on our honeymoon, low so many years ago, and it was noisy then. Didn't sleep a wink for fear of a big rig barreling through our tent in the dark. Yikes.

We were going to camp at Jedediah one year when we had the kids with us, but it was all full up. Ended camping along a the way to the Oregon Caves...and that's another story.

Oooops, 7:24 and the grand babies will be showing up any time now.

Thanks for sharing those great photos.
