Northern Breeze And A Propane Fire Pit.

We recently purchased a Northern Breeze screen shelter on a Black Friday 25% off sale. I've read all the reviews about it trapping hot air and being excessively warm with the flaps up and the screens down. Frankly up here in the Great White North that is not really a concern of mine. Maybe when we travel south but for that I have other options. Anyway I'm more concerned about the lower end of the thermometer. Has anyone used a NB tent with a propane fire pit inside. We do most of our camping in the spring and the fall to avoid summer crowds and the one or two weeks in July and August where it may get above 90. This fall there were a few weekends camping where inside Xanadu was fine but outside cooking or just sitting and watching the world go by things got a bit nippy. I'd be interested in folks experience in keeping warm at the campsite in colder weather.

That's a good question - I'm interested to hear people's thoughts too. We are similar campers, with me being more likely to feel too cold.
Maybe the Northern Breeze set up to facilitate enough ventilation for safety but with enough 'coverage' for heat retention - whether from a fire pit or some other source...

I'm kind of in the same boat trying to keep the camping season going longer (if not year round). I have a smaller shelter - the clam travel shelter which is the 4 sided model. Last December I set it up and put my portable propane fire pit inside and found that the fumes coming off were strong. I ended up moving it (and us) outside of the shelter as it didn't seem safe (was worried about carbon monoxide specifically). That said, I think you'd do well with a portable propane heater that combusts more thoroughly such as Mr. Heater Big Buddy. At 18,000 BTU, I think it would work well. You may also want to consider running a fan as the top of the tent will get real warm while the floor stays cold.

I have a Big Buddy and I plan on using it next fall when I do a September weekend in Wisconsin and an October weekend in Illinois. I will try to remember and post results.

We have a small electric heater for in the tear when needed. We have used it in the NB in the evening when in the 40’s with the sides down on 3 sides. Worked well.
