Generator

Thanks LM. The smell of gas makes me sick (really sick). That's why we wanted to run it on propane and I don't want to store it inside the teardrop. We're going to wait and see how the solar works first.

Well, one more reason(s)for getting a " Utility Cart ", which could carry " anything " (Bike Cable locked) using the " Tear Rear Hitch ".

" Receiver Hitch : This option adds a receiver hitch type attachment point at the rear of the trailer. Use it with standard, 2 inch, hitch type bicycle racks. The receiver hitch is intended for less than 150lbs.... "

Jr.: Weighs just 18 lbs. ; Frame size: 20" x 40".

( 10 lbs maybe ?? )

Dry Weight 44.1 lb

Total estimated weight : Approx 80 lbs Max

Just another thought... ?

L.M.,

Nice!! The most common way I see customers haul their generators is on a receiver hitch mounted cargo rack. Having to unload it and move it all the time is the downside. This a great solution to this. Might be just the answer for Benn and Bunni.

By the way, sent someone your way yesterday. Expect a call.

Cary

You're right -- this might work. I started looking last night for a cargo rack with a hinge that would swing out of the way. I was looking for one that would swing to the left under the table and be out of the way (meaning I wouldn't trip over it!).

Bunni,

A customer once made a really nice custom generator box like this for his 560. This customer is a superb fabricator so this is a tough one to duplicate for most customers. Take a peek though.

P.S. Kent knows this customer and has seen this trailer setup.

Hey all,

keep in mind , I don't plan on running it on " Gasoline ".. However , I'm still trying to figure out how to get it running on " PROPANE ".

I measured the " TUB " & it should fit nicely !!

All that will be needed are a few straps to keep the lid in place & a " Bike Cable Lock " to keep the thieves at bay !!.

Roll it off @ camp & lock it to the nearest object , including the front of my trailer !

I'll have to wait until " Payday " to order the set-up & post photos.

Hopefully I'll have it before my next anticipated " Roadtrip / Vacation " in July ; MAMMOTH LAKES

Cary, I spoke to the person yesterday .. funny thing " We know each other " !

L.M.

Well, its been a very long time since we last spoke !!

p.s. For those of you still considering additional " Options " for your " Tear / Raindrop " !
Just another reason to get your " Rear Bumber & Hitch ".. : To haul around the odd's & ends, & unfortunately..., having to lock them to the " Rear Bumber ".. !

LM,
Did you ever get your generator to run continuously using propane? Still putting plans together, and can see a need for an alternate source of electricity. I am not interested in messing with a solar panel, though I can see advantages.

Thanx
George

Hey George, I haven't " Tinkered " with it since the last time @ the " Range " on 6/8/10.

However, I do plan on making some time to get it going with the " Propane ".

I'll have to find one my buddies that has an " Auto Shop ", as the last resort !!

L.M.

LM, the company I work for a company that converts gas engines to propane all the time. First, propane is a pressurized fuel that ignites in the gaseous form. Gasoline ignites in the liquid form so the carburetors are completely different. I couldn't tell by the picture if your generator can use the three different fuel sources, gas, natural gas and propane. Make sure it is made for the other fuels. They will sell a conversion kit for the models made for propane.

Propane burns hotter and dryer. Because of the heat, make sure your motor has hardened valve seats or you will have a expensive wheel chock in less than 10 hours of running. We destroyed 2 engines from GM when they came out with a new model because they "saved money" by eliminating the hardened valve seats. In other words, if it wasn't made to run on propane, I wouldn't recommend converting it. You might end up scrapping a very nice generator.

Just some thoughts.

Hey George,

The " Yamaha Generator " has been converted by " U.S. Carburator " , which is an authorized conversion unit & covered under warranty, by both companies.
http://www.uscarb.com/yamaha-generators.htm

I just spoke with a fellow co-worker , who knows of another co-worker, that has a " Small Gas Engine Shop ", near me. He does have some experience with " Propane " conversion

This would save me on " Shipping Cost " back to " U.S. Carburator ", for what might turm out to a be a " Minor ".. adjustment / tuning. !

Again,, it works " PERFECTLY " on gasoline .. No problems !!

My best guess, I'm apparently not doing something correct on my part.. using the " Propane ".

I do know that once you get it going, you'll be very happy with propane over gas. You are correct, it's probably something simple.

I'll have to get a picture of the latest propane carburetor on our certified engines. With all the new emission regulations, it looks like something NASA designed.
