Great weekend at Garner State Park in our 550...spotted a 560 in the park as well. It's a bit of a story of multiple parks. The campground near the day use area looked overcrowded and had limited privacy. The water only tent areas were full of boy scouts...a bit noisy for us. We picked up a late cancellation in the 'new' Live Oak part of the campground backing up to the Frio river. BIG difference. Our site #362 was Camp Inn ready in that most trailers and trucks would not have fit, so we got the last remaining river site. But really any of the river sites in that are are good sites...the river is a walk down the bank with several entry areas and few people when compared to the day use area. We didn't put up any canopy as the trees already covered the entire site. Garner has a putt putt course, many hike/bike trails, a dance area (we didn't experience that), kayak rentals, park store, gift shop, etc. Full service if you will. The Frio River is stocked with trout in the winter...all I found were small sunfish, but fly fishing for them still fun. My wife doesn't usually wade into lakes or rivers, but this was so clear the the water temp so nice we got in multiple times behind our site to just relax and cool off.
