Crisco or any good shortening will give a good season. Crisco or shortening is extremely available just about anywhere you can buy grocery items. Bee wax takes a little searching and is not as available. It main reason for my preference as stated earlier is it does not goe rancid. So my guess is with the majority of the people that would be useinf the cast iron in this forum have maybe 4 items that are cast, they will be used relatively regular. If ya use it and store it right, it shouldn't turn bad.
