Icebreaker is a company out of New Zealand. On a trip down there, I didn't have warm enough clothes and picked up one of their sweaters. I completely fell in love with their sweaters. A few years ago they opened up their US headquarters in Portland and we subsequently got a beautiful store downtown and an outlet (20 minutes south...I am heading there tomorrow).

They make everything out of Merino wool from sheep in New Zealand (I believe the clothes are made in Asia, but the wool is harvested in NZ). It is nice because NZ has a similar climate to the NW, so it really works for us.
I have 2 favorite sweaters I wear over their base layers (sweater is a 260 or 300 thickness, most of my base layers are either 200 or 260, depending on core or legs). The other day I wore my 200 leggings with a skirt and was warm in 25 degree weather. It reminded me how awesome they are and I got online and ordered a pair in the 260 for even colder weather.
The outlet is great too. They usually have a sale going on, on top of the reduced prices. The clothes are beautifully designed (in my opinion). I have coats and dresses also. I heard they will have a big sale online in January. I buy as much as I can on sale, because it can be pricy.
The wool is a great insulator, it is naturally wicking, and it doesn't get stinky. I am going to get Mick some new socks to wear with his boots...they are a stink factory. All of their stuff is machine washable (cold), but you hang dry and if you wash it with jeans it makes everything softer.
Frank, not sure if you have been to the Dunes before, but they are so fun. We used to take cardboard boxes or discs and "sled" down them in the summer. We have also done one of the big dune buggy trips. Need to get the Lad down there one of these days. He would love it! Florence downtown is nice little place. Mo's is there. I have always liked that one best. We tried a little bar just down the street last summer (they let kids in during the day). Food there was good too. Just in case you wanted to eat out. There is a lighthouse you can visit too...if you are inclined! Enjoy!
