Back from Columbus!

We had a wonderful time this past week for three days in Columbus Ohio, just a four hour drive from home.
This was our first time at an RV Park. We stayed at the Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware OH. It has a nicely tree'd and garden ambiance overall. Plenty of shade for sure. There were mostly full time RVers there with their big honkin' rigs, but they were friendly anyway. They all stayed in the full hookups with sewer, while we and another small camper used the Electric and water area, So we pretty much had one side of the park to ourselves. BUT REMEMBER THIS about Cross Creek! They have a sign in the restroom and shower facility that says something like, "The management wants to know if you don't find this to be the cleanest restroom of any campsite you have ever stayed at." What a challenge. The restroom and showers were super clean. The wonderful thing about an RV park before Summer vacation is, that most folks have RVs and don't use the park bathrooms. We had them pretty much all to ourselves, every morning and evening! We paid about $31 each night.
The main reason we went to Columbus were two fold.
1. The Columbus Zoo. It has been rated the best Zoo in the country by some. Even better than San Diego! Jack Hanna is the zookeeper. Its a huge facility, nice and clean with a tremendous variety of animals. Many of the animals can be seen through thick acrylic instead of steel fences. Many times this helps with photos. There are several aviaries, so you can be in the same environment with the birds. You need to check this place out. We didn't get time to see their world class aquarium though.
2. Franklin Park Conservancy and Botanic Garden
This place was also incredible! Many of the gardens are in covered areas under glass, so you are not baking in the sun. .The butterfly aviary was the best!
We also stumbled upon the German Village. It was established in the early to mid 19th century for German immigrants. We ate in a wonderful restaurant called Schmidts. The town is all brick buildings and brick roads. A true find.
So we can't recommend Columbus Ohio enough!

Sounds like a fun place. Jim and I love botanical gardens and have been know to plan a vacation around some of the more spectacular ones...such as Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC.

Glad you had a good time.

Camp On,

Jim and Sue
