    Wow Ken,
Your iron really looks good. Not to scare you though, I would get the waffle irons tested for lead, since they were painted.

Your waffle looks perfect. Is that THE first, or one from the 1st batch LOL.

Re: 1st Waffles with the new iron

George, I will look into how to test it for lead - hadn't thought of that. The 'perfect' waffle is actually the 2nd one I made - the 1st waffle has the preserves and powdered sugar on it. Getting the right temp was a bit tricky, but it seemed to work out OK.

EDIT: Found lead test kits at Home Depot (online only). I suppose I'd just test the surface of the iron as it is seasoned, since that's how it will be used. I wouldn't think I'd need to strip the seasoning and start over. I may ask on the WAGS forum, too.

Hope your test proves negative, now for the portant part.

FYI, I have had my irons about 4 years, and the harshest thing they have seen is hot water and maybe a stiff nylon scrub brush, and those not very often. not counting my waffles that is. LOL theyre pretty harsh some times.

I plan on treating them the same as you, George. Although I did get some preserves stuck on the aebleskiver pan Sunday. They are being very stubborn about letting go - I even filled the pan with water and brought it to a low boil for a bit.

I'm thinking about re-seasoning that pan, unless you have a suggestion for getting the rest of that sugary gunk off?

EDIT: George, I think I'll use it as is (see post below).

    Aebleskivers, Start to Finnish...

I had some left over batter from Easter, so made up a few more aebleskivers this morning - couldn't just throw away the batter...

They really look good. Lodge, as well as Camp Chef, and I am sure a few others make a hard nylon pan scraper. They work good on camelized ie burnt on sugar. If the "stuff" isn't on the cooking surface, I wouldn't worry about it.

OBTW, you have me makin waffles. Have had them twice this week. Even made enough to freeze. Homemade Egos. LOL

Thanks George. I have one of those scrapers somewhere - you gave it to me - but I kinda took the edge off of it by using it on a hot piece of iron once... I'll have to grab a couple next time I get to a Cabela's or Gander Mtn. Peggy was not too happy to walk in the door yesterday to a plate of fresh aebleskivers

You can also find them in the kitchen utensil section at Target, Shopko, Wal-Mart, etc.

Why not? I know she likes the "goodies". I remember how upset she was when you "stole" her breakfast bar. LOL

Jenn, yes, right on the stovetop. After a little experimenting with the flame height, they cooked up nice and fluffy :)
