Although the date & info have been on the forum calendar for awhile & there has been some discussion, I thought it was time to start an "official" thread on this year's Camp-Outt.

Continue to check back here for updates.

Those of you that are planning on going to CICO, and are interested in a demo with Dutch Oven Camp Iron.

I am open to requests for a demo. Some ideas are,

Baking bread
Seasoning
Seasoning with beewax
Open fire cooking
Heat control (charcoal)
Dimwiddie Method.

Let me know what you want to discuss or see demonstrated.

I'd like to see a variety of cobblers - say, peach, apple, and blueberry. Thanks George.

For those who can't make it, could some one take some video of George's demonstrations and post it here? I would love to see it!

George is coming again! Cool. He was one of the highlights of the event. Sure kept Jean in line being right next to her, or was it the other way around?

Cary

Oh, yeah, George was on the 2011 Attendee list by late Sunday afternoon of the 2010 CICO. I made sure of it by asking him if he would be so kind as to give a DO workshop.

Sneaky, aren't I?

I don't feel like I was sneaked upon. I am flattered that you would want me, and flattered to be asked back. I really enjoyed myself last year, and as you witnessed love my cookin, so if I can get another person headed down the camp cooking with cast path, I will be proud.

Disclaimer....... My demo is not and will not be tendered to change anyone that is all ready cooking with DO's proceedure. If a tip or two are picked up by the seasoned (a play on words here) individuals, I am happy to help. I am learning new things every time I get with someone who has experience with this type of cooking.

Sure hope we get to come but at this time we have a very full plate - a wedding and possible move. Not to mention the price of gas from Texas to Wisconsin! Gotta get closer to the date to make a final decision - let me get through the summer and see where we are...hope that's ok to let you know that late Betsey (?)

Linda,

The park will have plenty of room if you arrive unannounced!
Large campground with nice shower facilities.

Jean

Linda,

Even if you decide to come last minute, it's not a problem. However, please let me know if/when the time comes. I do need to know for name buttons & a few other things that we don't want you to miss out on.

Also, we are looking at doing the park setup different this year, so will need to have an approximate head count by September 1.

Sure hope you guys can make it!

Hi Betsey--Please sign us up too. We plan on going when we pick up our raindrop. :) We'll have to wing it when it comes to the potluck since we may not have everything for the galley yet. Thanks!

Linda, there is nothing like fall in Wisconsin. Hope to see you in September!

Betsey, hope you've got Bob and I on the list.

Update: Things are looking better-er and better-er that we WILL be able to come. Our son's wedding will be out of the way, gas prices are going to be better they say (yeah!), there's been a probable sale of some family land we were unaware of (double YEAH!) and unless something unexpected comes up I see no reason we can't make it. Unless that land doesn't sell....supposed to close in July or August. We DO expect to move into a home closer to our kids and will be selling our 5th wheel when that happens, but hopefully we can sneak a trip in the fall - always wanted to see the fall foliage up that way....will keep you posted!

Betsey, we noticed last year there was a tour of the factory on Saturday, will that be happening again this year? We were thinking of going to the Cranberry Festable but we wouldn't want ot miss a tour of Camp Inn. I don't think we'll be in early enough on Friday to go with you... besides we'll still have to pick up and set up the rental.

aj & michelle

Cranberry Festival is on Sunday also.

When you pick up the rental unit, which must be a Camp Inn. ask for a tour then.

I haven't reviewed you teardrop experiences, but if you are new, skip the Cranberry Festival, spend the day at the CICO talking with teardrop owners.

The Cranberry Festival is enjoyable. Offers thousands of booths from typical flee market items, all levels of crafts, professional artists, lots of food, and produce booths. Festival is a major visitor draw. Many buses, people, cars. Parking is available in "town" for a fee.

Bring lots of cash!

Purchase a 5 pound box of Cranberries and freeze them. The size of the Cranberries is much larger then can be purchased in the grocery stores.

Jean

AJ & Michelle,

There are usually two tours on Saturday, one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Often there is one Sunday, late in the morning.

Tours on the Friday of the CICO are not really an option. That is always a very, very busy day (more than most Fridays) due to customers who may be picking up trailers; warranty work/updates being done, CICO stuff that might be needed & unexpected things. Far more time can be spent on the weekend tours & it helps keep the guys on schedule.

Cranfest goes through Sunday afternoon. Some people love to go, others avoid it at all costs. If you've never been, it's kind of interesting. This quiet little town of 300 swells to over 100,000 for 3 days. If you like to shop, look for antiques & unique gift items, peruse the farmers' market, listen to South American street musicians, or sample some great local food, you would enjoy attending. Saturday is by far the busiest (translated = insanely crowded) day, but if you go early it's better than going later. The parking is done by local non-profit organizations/groups who do it as a fundraiser.

There are other things to see/do in the area. I always send out some info the month before to those attending. In addition, I have maps, brochures, etc. available at the CICO for you to take.

By the way, if anyone would like to purchase cranberries but doesn't want to haul them around at Cranfest or isn't going to Cranfest, let me know. I can get them by the 1 lb bag or 5 lb box. Price is usually around $2 for the bag, $8-9 for the box but it will depend on how the crop is doing. These come from one of the oldest cranberry marshes here in Wisconsin & are always great!
