Itinerary 3rd Annual Nw Camp-inn Round Up

Slumry, in your details, please include the official dates. There were so many date options to begin with that I can't remember what we ended up choosing.

Actually, Bear will be fine if he follows me to the campGROUND - it just might be another hour or two before we find the campSITE.

 

Details as promised:

Dates: Thursday July 25 to Sunday July 28th. Last time people arrived fairly early on the first day and did not have problems getting into the site. Official check-in is 2:30 PM and Check-out is 1:00 PM.

Venue: Mossyrock Park, primitive group camp site. When you get to the entrance booth, identify yourself as part of that cute teardrop group (they will likely be able to figure that out based on what you are towing). They will give you a vehicle tag. This is the important part; once you get the tag, immediately take a hard left just past the entrance booth. Take our own private causeway to the campsite and pick a spot anywhere you wish. They do not seem to care about us driving on the grass; in fact, it seems to keep the mole population down. There is water, pit toilets and trash. However there is no power, (Mick will be bringing a small nuclear reactor so we can plug into his grid). Showers and flushes can be found elsewhere in the park, albeit, they are a hike away or drive away.

Cost: figure the total of all days divided by total number of participants. Last year it was around $50 a party, the more participants the cheaper it will be. The site is booked based on 10 parties and can hold 20, if not more. There will be no nose counting this year, we will trust that the right number of participants will show up. In any event, we would like to have everyone show up including potential Camp-Inn buyers, tenters or anyone else interested in Camp-Inn trailers. Down here at Slumry’s Easy Gatherings, we are flexible about payment and can arrange alternate terms if people don’t like the pricing. We just want to see as many campers as possible.

Food and Events: in keeping with the spirit of previous NW CICO’s there will be no organized meals or events. However, there will be “green” boxes. This tradition is borrowed from boating and simply means that every night we gather, share stories, libations and whatever food the spirit moves us to offer. This is not quite a potluck, but there usually ends up being more than enough food, especially if Evan and Lena have the Dutch oven going.

Science: in keeping with tradition, we will be performing experiments, so bring yours.

What to do? Fishing, boating, hiking and field trips to Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rainer and Mount Adams. Don’t forget the famous Ape Caves.

What to bring? Wood, a science experiment (optional) and a sense of humor. Dogs are OK as long as they are on a leash. If you have any questions please private message me or respond to this thread.

Also, I am still holding reservations for the group site at Magone Lake for August 15 through August 18th. These were made as a backup. I expect that I will cancel the reservations unless there are a few parties interested in going. I will canvas folks at Mossyrock and make a decision then.

Thanks for posting the address and directions. It is pretty easy to find, just get on highway 12 going east from I5 and go south when you get to the town of Mossyrock. The distance between I5 and Mossyrock is a little over 20 miles. You should see signs to the park once in town, if not take a left onto State Street when you get downtown and follow the road out to the east. The road will change to Mossyrock Road and then to Ajlune Road. The park is about three miles from the town. The park is owned by Tacoma Public Utilities but there is some arrangement with Washington State Parks so that it appears on their website.

Hurray, the circus is coming; I mean the 2013 NW Camp-Inn Round Up. It all starts in one week in beautiful Mossyrock, WA. All are welcome, even well behaved kids and bugs.

Some points of clarification. Even though the gathering starts Thursday afternoon and ends Sunday morning, please feel free to come for as many days as you wish, or just stop by and say hello. About things to bring; wood is optional (it can be bought at the park) and after all, who burns wood in July? Science experiments are optional as well, if you have prototype for a death ray, by all means bring it along. We tend to like to play with stuff. Food just happens, so don’t worry too much about it and just have a good time. Bring food for yourself and something to share if you are so inclined.

Remember that project with the exploding film canisters; I will bring the film canisters if someone can help with the rest. I think we need some Alka Seltzer, a mounting board and something we can use to attach the canisters to the board.

Shirley and I are really looking forward seeing all the campers from last year and all the new friends of Camp-Inn this year.

I've got my hands full with the "Air-Themed" stuff. I can bring the Alka Seltzer if no one else pops up, but I have 3 simple things to play with... all have to do with "Air"...

Hi all
Susan and I have benefitted so much from reading the posts on this forum when it came time for us to order our own Camp Inn TD trailer. We didn't think that we would be able to participate in this years PNW Camp Inn gathering especially since we don't have our TD yet and that we would have to sleep in OH NO! a tent on the COLD and HARD! ground. But then we started thinking what a missed opportunity this is, I mean all of you have so much experience when it comes to teardropping and all. We would really love to meet you folks, see how you do things, see your TDs in action and hear all your wonderful stories. So we've decided to drop everything and join you at Mossyrock. So add a couple of soon to bees to the list and we'll see you there.

Believe we had 2 tenters there last time that had their TD on order and the ground is softer? if there is such a thing as it's one grass.. heheh, not much help, but some???

I just added the photos I took from the last one to give an idea of the layout.. (I thought I had them up earlier, but apparently not, Doh!!!)

Well, it's Dam Lake... probably fairly calm... I guess, wind can pick up... don't know in "Kayak Terms" what rough would be... slight chop? I'd go out... no experience in "yaks".. so might be a stupid move on my part eh?? heheheh...

Up in Canada, did see the River kayaking... that looked like fun..

Here's the roughest I saw it I believe.. Wind would have been the biggest problem. But over in about 30 min... Squall...



Not quite like this... but this would be the next sport?? heheh or maybe next life...

It is a large lake, but I have never seen it get very rough. There is a lot of shoreline to hug. The biggest issue is that the lake level drops as they release water late in the summer and the water level can get a bit distant from the nominal shoreline.

About tent camping, there are great sites for tent camping, all on grass. The only issue is that you might have to share your tent with the moles. They own the campground and allow us to camp in it.

My daughter and I are looking forward to meeting new folks and seeing how you have personalized your teardrops. My daughter has a small trailer but I will be tenting.
Do the evening get togethers start before dinner or do we have dinner at our own site and bring snacks to the gathering?

Pat, you should think of the Mossyrock event as being a multi-day party. People tend to gather frequently; there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason when. Food to share is brought out whenever someone feels like it. In the evening, we usually sit around the camp fire and exchange banter. Some campers prepare their own dinner and eat it at their site or at the gathering.

The official green box tradition is to gather for appetizers, and then go back to one's own yacht for dinner.

However, either because nobody can find their yacht, or because there usually ends up being more than enough food, so far nobody seems to leave for dinner.

So, in our little teardrop village, the evenings remain highly 'unofficial'. The get-togethers have no designated start or end time, and there is no criteria for what to bring. But, somehow everyone has a great time and leaves full.
