This trailer, which we’ve named Telemachus for the character in Homer’s Odyssey, has been well cared for and maintained, and stored under a custom-made carport.
Why is the price so low? An unfortunate encounter with a large rock broke the driver’s side spindle (the part that connects the hub to the torsion bar swing arm). The damage from this accident was repaired, but the impact put a crack in the chassis that went undetected until continued use caused the chassis to break fore and aft of the torsion bar connection on the passenger side. I repaired the breaks by spanning them with a thick steel bar and bolting the bar to the inside of the vertical chassis member with six 3/8-inch bolts. The repair has been road-tested on a 700-mile trip that included freeway speeds and rough roads. I am confident—but not certain—that the repair will extend Telemachus’s road-worthiness indefinitely. However, the strength of the chassis has been compromised and it can’t be trusted like an undamaged one. Potential buyers should also be aware that the driver’s side fender was deformed in the original accident (see photograph). Also, Telemachus has been driven more than 70,000 miles. For these reasons, we are selling Telemachus at a steep discount on an as-is basis with no warranty. Photographs of the repair are included with this ad, and more information is available on request.
Telemachus has brand-new tires; the deep-cycle battery is less than three years old; both hubs and one leveling jack have been replaced; the interior has several added amenities, including an indoor/outdoor thermometer, mirrors, and a cell phone holder. Included with the trailer are wheel chocks, a hitch lock, a locking wheel nut, a bamboo cutting board custom cut to fit in the galley storage slot, and a nearly-full half-gallon of Walbernize polishing compound.
