Fridge / Cooler 12v Cooler

Now I know you all have been chatting about the ac/dc fridge, but what I want to know is: which one is the best?

We were looking at the Coleman 12v cooler, but it looks like it won't fit in the galley and I wasn't impressed with it's promise to keep things 40 degrees cooler than the ambient air. That won't help at 104.

We wanted to use a fridge instead of the classic ice-in-the-cooler bit. However, I'm not sold on the product yet. I'd like something more reliable for our month long romp this September, so what have you all to say about it?

Sue

We have a Coleman 12v that we have used for many years. We keep it in the van and plug in to AC in campgrounds. It is iffy when the temp its in is above 85 or so. Also we always wanted to use it to stove some ice cubes as we are ice fanatics but it does not do well with a small box of ice cubes.

We got the Dometic this year and are still learning how to use it effectively.

Only if you have the official Camp-Inn hockey stick. Just set it to 32, fill it up and give it electrons.

You might need to play with the temperature a little. 32 works great if you're opening it a lot. But if we're gone all day, at 32 the water and milk freeze. So we usually leave it at 34.

We have a Dometic, drove six hours with it in the galley on 104° day… can't imagine the temp inside the galley. Although the contents didn't stay as cold as they normally would @ 32° things were still chilled. Once we got set up, moved it to the side table, added a little shade, all was well. Soda and water got as cold as they normally do and a couple food items that worked their way to the bottom actually started to freeze. The rest of the weekend was in the upper 90's and there was no hint of the fridge not handling the heat. The only thing I noticed was condensation between the insulated cover and the fridge. It was the first time we had used the cover and I'm guessing that's normal given the conditions. We've use it several times since for regular shopping runs but haven't experienced anymore condensation, however it does travel in the comfort of an air-conditioned TV.
