Lexington, Ky

  1. Looks like we will be in Kentucky a lot in the near future. Our daughter accepted a job in Georgetown, KY near Lexington. She’ll work for a packaging company that does work for Toyota & BMW. Moving her to start her job on Jan 10 & going up next week to find an apartment.

Anyone familiar with the area? Campgrounds in the Lexington, KY area for future visits? Looks what is reviewed here in the forum for KY is further West in the state.

Charlestown State Park is in Indiana --- its interesting for 2 reasons:

1] Though you can't see it, it is built on the site of a WWII munitions plant. "The Proper People" have visited it before the majority was destroyed.
2] Its the site of a very old amusement park, "Rose Island" from a century ago. Its very much gone, but you can still find some points of interest if you're willing to look around.

Its a decent park for relaxing, not much in terms of attractions - which for me is just fine. Less week-end-warriors the better :)

If you like BBQ, in Shelbyville KY area, there is a placed called "KenTex BBQ" --- best Q I've had in a LONG time. Especially on Friday --- you've got to get there early for lunch, but they smoke a Ribeye which is amazing!!!

  4. Just head east to the Appalachia areas of the state. Very pretty and great hikes. Natural Bridge state park has plenty of fun spots to check out around it. (Slade, KY). Also a lot of the state parks here have decent options for quick stays. Visit some of the distilleries around the state as they have invested large amounts of money in the touring business now. I live in Louisville but the state often gets overlooked. The fields around Lexington are rich in history and very pretty. Decently diverse state.
