Shortest Trip Ever

Shortest Trip EVER!!! Yep we screwed up big time. Finished teaching our kids at the Alternative School where we both work Friday and headed to go camping at Keowee-Toxaway State Park. It is one of our favorites and we usually camp there this weekend every year. Got a little late start as both headlights were out on our Subaru Outback and one of them needed the socket replaced, so it was about 6:00 before we got going. Gets dark in SC at around 7:30-7:40 so we had just enough to for the one hour drive and set up side tent before it got too dark, maybe.

Drove up the hill to the campground and we would have Site 4 which is the first one after the hairpin turn at the top. There is a really large camper in Site 4 with a roaring fire, enjoying the last few minutes of a great sunset. Site 4 has the best view to the West. So we drive to the office to park and start going through emails, checking our calendars, etc. And using quite a bit a profanity!!!

Are we here the wrong weekend? Did we make reservations someplace else? No, we both have in our phones this campground on this weekend. Ranger finally comes along and goes up to his office. Hhe does not have us down for any weekend and can only find us from past stays there. They only have 10 sites and it is full. Not really interested in driving around in the dark at other nearby campgrounds to see what they have. So we start the hour or so drive home. We are sure we are right and can't wait to get to the computer at the house so we can see.

Nope, not anyone's fault but our own it appears. No reservations made and we checked our credit card too, no charge was made for this weekend. As you know, we have camped a lot in SC State Parks the last couple of years mostly due to proximity and a Black Friday Half Price Special they run each year. So last November, when we made our reservations for all of 2019 we put them on paper for when we want to and where we want to go. Then we type the dates in our phone on the calendars and book the sites we want. So when we made the 8-10 camping reservations on Black Friday, guess which one we skipped and didn't do? Or didn't complete the transaction?

In about 3 weeks we are going to try and go somewhere for the weekend. Good news is the camper is already loaded and I got in a bike ride I was not counting on this morning. Could have been worse, we were only an hour so away from home and nobody was hurt.

 

Oh, my! Can totally see us doing that. Glad your drive back and forth was reasonably short AND that now Jeramiah #720 is ready for the next trip. We just returned from a trip to beautiful Oregon. Was supposed to be six nights but came home a day early because it was too cold to really enjoy sitting around outside. First time we've done that!

 

Heading out next weekend with reservations this time. We will be camping with at Chau-Ram County. We will have half of the Camp Inns (at least the ones I know about) from SC there. David & Treva's Oconee Belle will be there alongside Jeremiah. Looking forward to it.
