Wyalusing is a beautiful park. It is a couple of hours from us. We have camped there a few times. Breathtaking views of the Mississippi. Lots of hiking trails & scenic overlooks. There is also a canoe trail at the base of the bluff that is nice. You camp on top of the bluff. Here is a picture
Prairie du Chien is not too far away (you can see it in the far background of the picture). There are lots of historical things to see & do in the area, including Villa Louis Mansion (state historical site) as well as a medical museum (some very old & scary surgical instruments

), & old Fort Crawford. There is also a Cabela's. On the Minnesota side of the river is Effigy Mound National Monument, with a fascinating history & examples of the Native American mound builders. Well worth the trip.
We last camped there with a group of teardroppers (CI owners & wannabees

) 2 years ago in May. We've talked about doing it again.
Unfortunately, a few years ago, some of the best hiking trails were destroyed in a freak torrential rainstorm where they received some 8" of rain in less than an hour, washing away some of the bluff & its trails for good. Some of the trails have been reconstructed.
Wisconsin State Parks officially opened for the summer season last weekend, so there might not be anyone available at the office every day.
I guarantee you would love this place.
