We picked up Ultra 560 #689 at the nest today. We traveled a whole 14 miles to Castle Rock Park for the night. We were sorry to miss all the CICO folks but at least we get to spend a night at the site.

We spent some great time with Marty and Cary this morning learning the ins and outs of our new camper. It is really beautiful with mahogany paneling setting off the birch. My hubodometer mount fit perfectly and is happily ticking off the miles.

We are off tomorrow to visit relatives in Illinois and Iowa, then on to California visiting stuff along the way. We will be picking the route ad hoc based on weather and what we feel like as we go along. It took us for days to get here, it will be at least double that getting back.

OK. So I'm gonna out myself a bit here. This summer, my wife Tammy and I visited our daughter out in Humboldt County, CA for her birthday. We camped 4 nights at Richardson Grove State Park in the redwoods as this campground was adjacent (walking distance) to the famous Reggae-on-the River festival. Needless to say, our little "One Drop" was a big hit.

One morning as my rather handsome son-in-law Bryan was cooking breakfast for our little village of campers, a parade of gawkers came by. Most of them were ahem, rather attractive young ladies. He started giving tours. Then I made the mistake of telling him that I'd pay him $5 for every lady he could get to actually climb in the trailer. Had to have feet at least lift off the ground.

I'm about $50 lighter but it was so hilarious…. Oh no, I don't want to get in…. No, it's OK. …. No, really I couldn't. .. Seriously, GET IN!

That is funny...I'm guessing your daughter was probably not amused.

We Made It Home!

We are back at home with the Pony Inn parked in our driveway. Starting in California I drove 5,567 miles in 15 days, went through 15 states, and crossed state boundaries 19 times. After picking up the trailer at the nest we pulled it 3,426 of those miles through 12 states and we slept in it eight nights. This was a true trial by fire, finding campgrounds on the fly, cooking some meals in the galley and wimping out and eating out some; guess which ones were the best. We had our share of looky-loos and passed out a few brochures.

We passed through some beautiful country (some boring too of course), explored the old main streets of small towns, poked in junk shops (even bought a few things), and made lists of things to add to our trailer and ways to pack better, lists of things to look up on the internet when we are home, and lists of places we have to come back to when we can stay for a while.

Clearly this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
