We spent the weekend here, also referred to as Kickapoo River State Park (although only on local signage) - what a great spot! Tons of paddling opportunities; lakes, ponds, and the Vermilion River. Miles of hiking trails, and plenty of wildlife. The area was surface-mined years ago, and the pits have filled to form a web of interconnected paddling routes. We will be back for more.

Thanks guys. It is really a great spot to camp - and only a couple hours away for us. I heard about it last year for the first time, and would recommend it for a spot to visit if you're headed to the Chicago area - it's about 120 miles south of the city.

Now that looks like a really nice place to spend a couple of days!! Right up our alley....when we get tired of Florida, that is!!
    Great pictures!

That looks great! Thanks for sharing this little gem. We'll definitely have to check it out.

Also.... I wonder if this is where Al Capp got his Kickapoo Joy Juice? (yeah, I'm that old) Didn't see anyone selling some, did you?

    Camp On,

    Sue

Sorry Sue, I don't know what that is - it sounds REALLY old-fashioned, though. The park's a gem, that is for sure. I think it'd be a good fall spot, too, with the variety of trees in the area.

Cool pictures, Ken. I definitely need to get back to the midwest for some camping.

    Hey!

Okay... I see I really am old.

Kickapoo Joy Juice, Al Capp? Li'l Abner from the Sunday comics. Boy, I miss good comics like Prince Valiant, Tarzan, Steve Canyon, Pogo and B.C... But I digress, as usual.

Anyway, the park sounds great and with a name like that, I simply have to visit.

    Camp On,

    Sue

Kickapoo SP looks very interesting. We'll make that one of our stops on the way to Necedah late next week.
