Fort De Soto

We stayed here in early Feb. After camping around FL for 2 months, this is one of our favorites. This park is on a barrier island at the mouth of Tampa Bay. It is administered by Pinellas County. The campsites are well-maintained. The birding is unbelievable. The beach is a short bicycle ride from the campground and very beautiful. There is an historic fort with a museum to explore. Like most of the good campgrounds in FL, this one can be hard to get into, so book early!

Was there in late March.....was not camping at the time, but the beach area is beautiful and the marine life was magnificant. The rays and fish were everywhere. Looked at the campgrounds and loved the views. Thanks for the heads up on the No-see-ums...They can carry you away. Seems like it was far enough away from the city to have an excellent view of the night sky.....? This is a definite return spot when I get outfitted.
