We left Maynard MA early on the morning of Sept. 15th arriving that evening at the KOA in Utica IL.(1039 miles). Leaving the next morning an heading for the KOA outside of Cheyenne WY.(879 miles) where spent our second night. We got up very early the next morningo we could meet my son in Jackson hole (3AM) so we could meet my son in Jackson hole around 9AM.(430 miles). It was fun finding a parking space in the middle of town but they do have the for campers. We found out that there was a ten mile strech of mud if we went North as planned(125 miles). We then desided to head Sount and then West over the pass just Sounth of town. The other side of the pass puts us in Idaho and on the West side of the Tetons heading North. We then turn East and arrive in West Yellowstone MT.(not sure how many miles this detour added). The KOA there is where we camped for the next three days roaming around the park visiting as much and we could. Then on the 21st we headed South to the Tetons the MUD and then back into Jackson. On the 22nd we dropped my son at the airport and continued on to Devils Tower KOA. The next day was a short trip for us, we were only going to Hill City SD. On the way there we stopped for a train ride on the Balck Hills Central Railroad. The next day we visited Mt Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorials, we also were able to wash the mud off of our Raindrop. We are now at Sep 25th which put us just 735 miles away from the 2009 Camp Inn Camp Outt so off we go heading for Necedah WI. For the next 3 days we visited with friend we had met there the year before and some new ones this year as well. Sunday morning we continue our trip east trying to avoid Chicago and end our day at the KOA at Perrysburg OH. Our next and final place to visit was the area around Watkins Glenn NY arriving on the 28th and leaving on the 30th. Sorry to say we had some rain in NY. The only other rain was while we were on the road. So this trip was really good weather wise. Finnally we arrive home with hundreds of photos at 12 MP each and video at 1080p which leads me to have to resize thing to fit this forum at a later daate. Photos alone total 1.7 Gig of storage.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, Jim and Sue. When you stayed at the KOA's, did you get tent sites or RV sites? Once we pick up our TD in September, we'll be doing a long trip and as we look at KOA campgrounds, it's not real clear which type we should opt for. Thanks, Kathy

Jim & Sue looks like you had a wonderful trip, great pictures. Cross Country from New York is our dream trip we hope to do it by the end of 2012. We also like to stay at KOA 99% of the time and never had a problem. I think i might have to ask you for some help when we start to make serious plans. :)

Love the picture of the Tetons! When we were there the Tetons were covered in clouds. Looks like you had a beautiful day when you were there.

When we are on a long day - 800 miles or better with an early start the next morning we book a 30 ft. RV site. A drive thru if available, for an easy pullout the next morning. On short days when not trying for a long distance we book a smaller site, which may be a tent site.

Planning is half the fun. I do most of my planning with mapquest in the winter and already have our second look haul trip planned to the Mammoth Caves KY, then down to the Grand Canyon South Rim, then North Rim, then into Utah and Colorado visiting several NP before catching interstate 80. We are planning to make the Camp Inn Camp Outt again this year as well. When you are ready send me a message.

Charlie:

I think we saw your teardrop when we picked ours up in 2008, since ours is 278 and your is 279.

We had outstanding weather virtually the whole time we were out west, nothing but bright blue skys.

Bob and I were amazed at your long days! Your site selections make sense. Thanks for the feedback.
