Andrew Jackson State Park

During a day trip we were on, we checked out the campground at Andrew Jackson. It is small with 25 sites but it is a really nice campground. A few of the sites are on the small lake in the park. Stay on the outside of the loop if you can, the inside ones are pretty close together with little privacy. They are paved with each site having a picnic table and fire ring. There is one bathroom with showers.

There are some short hiking trails, one around the lake and another near the day us area. This is the childhood home of Andrew Jackson with both Carolinas claiming he was born on their side of the border. There is a statue of a young Andrew Jackson near the office. The sculptor was Anna Hyatt Hungtington who has statues all over the world and one of SC's coastal state parks is actually her family's former winter home. This park is not large and is convenient to I-77 if you are just passing through. You are not far from Rock Hill, SC and Charlotte, NC. If you travel with kayaks or canoes, check out Landsford Canal State Historic Site which is about 15 minutes away. That site is worth driving over to see anyway as it is located on the Catawba River and in May/June has the Rocky Shoal Spider Lilies that bloom and grow in the river. You are also near the Catawba Indian Reservation and Cultural Center.
