That's the 1 thing that led me to our current setup with the Patriot Hitch. But the cost then was nowhere close to what it is now.

There is a lot of torque way back there away from the pivot point of the hitch - Wow!

It's working out very well so far. I'm not any more than an average build and getting the bikes up and down is not an issue. It's been the best of the several configurations we've tried over the course of the past 17 or so years with the teardrop.

Certainly a valid issue. The Yakima rack is 50# and each of our 2 bikes weigh 30# so it uses some poundage..

In my case I was able to mount the hitch as high on my car as it could, since the tailgate cleared it when opening. So that may vary vehicle to vehicle. The way I have it mounted in use, there's a 10" rise from where the trailer mounts to where the bike rack mounts, as I have shown in the Pic...

A friend from the neighborhood sent this Pic that he took from about 5 miles west of here in a forest preserve. Impressive for Chicago and darn it I wish I was there.

They were visible here in Chicago too, but we only saw a tinge of red, being surrounded by city lights. First time for us, but it BARELY counts. I heard about them too late to get out to the boonies...

The 1st Winter Storm Warning is here, forecasting 12-18" in places. Which means we'll likely get 2-3"...

Thanks. It's hard to take a bad pic when you're surrounded by that kind of scenery. And we lucked out and hit it with the Aspens at their peak of color, which we've never seen :)

We spent 6 days in Yellowstone and the Tetons WITHOUT the crowds last week Last visit was 1994 with 4 kids and a pop-up. Weather was beautiful - upper 50's low 60's for highs and lows around 35-40. Did some fly fishing and hiking and saw plenty of wildlife. We saw our first Grizzly and Wolf...

Cades Cove - what a great area. Part of our itinerary on the backpacking trip mentioned here. Some beautiful country. Bears must be so used to people in that area. I think its the most visited NP isn't it?
