    Insurance

I have my 560 insured through the Auto Club which also has my car and homeowners insurance. So there are some discounts involved for multiple policies. My annual premium for the 560 is $177 which is just paid today for the next year. It is combined with the car policy but broken out separately...

    2026 Camping Gear

Nothing to check out. Just do it. At my age lifting a 55 lb e-bike to try and align it on the rails of the rack is an accident waiting to happen. No need to damage myself or the 560. I can and do usually lift the bike off the rack. Much simpler than getting it on. (It's all about the handlebars.)

    2026 Camping Gear

Ouch! My back hurts just looking at that photo. Good choice on the 1UP. I have one that uses the hitch on my car or the 560. They’re awesome. And if you’re hauling e-bikes, they sell a ramp that allows you to not have to lift the bike up on the rack. Worth its weight in gold.

    Furnace Electric heater warning

I have a cheap Vornado electric heater I use with shore power. It has two settings. One at 175W the other at 350W. I find 350W way too hot. The 175 can be a bit too much depending on how you aim it in the cabin. But as infrequently as I use it, I find the 175W perfect.

New Water Heater Option for Camp-Inn

I don't use them for toilet paper.

New Water Heater Option for Camp-Inn

I haven't used them but I think they are over $50 a night which is steep unless you really need the shore power. We still have to go use the bathroom inside with a CI.

New Water Heater Option for Camp-Inn

Last I heard, the rules definitely vary by where you are camping. Usually if I wander away from a national park I end up in a campground with shore power which always includes showers. For the record I always travel with baby wipes. When in the national park I will usually use the pay showers...

New Water Heater Option for Camp-Inn

I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but I do have a question for you campsite shower people. Is it legal where you shower, for your run off to just go straight to the ground? I mostly camp in national parks. My understanding is that gray water is not allowed to be dumped anywhere except an...

Where are you going in 2026?

In 2011 I went to Oregon with a cycling club for a week of cycling around Eugene. On the way home I went by Crater Lake. I only had a couple of hours to spare but I did manage to do some walking around. I was amazed by the color of the water. I took some pretty poor photos. Here's a couple of...

Where are you going in 2026?

Very cool! Have you ever been to Crater Lake? I know you can't go out on it but I was there once and this reminds me a lot of that lake.

Where are you going in 2026?

I've been to the redwoods around Crescent City and Klamath a few times. Camped with the CI in Klamath about a mile from the beach. I'm ready to go back again. Timing and getting older seem to be my biggest stumbling blocks. Love to see some photos, especially of the canoeing.

Where are you going in 2026?

Yeah. I actually spent 5 nites in a KOA in Rapid City. I had to wing it coming home since I couldn't know ahead of time exactly when I would get the trailer and when I would be where. As it turned out that was a serendipitous choice. Staying in one place and driving a hub and spoke route each...

Where are you going in 2026?

Just an FYI, I've booked Yosemite Valley campgrounds for the spring for the last 10 years in row. It's true, Yosemite is not an easy place to book but it's doable if you're willing to put time into the effort. Don't expect to log in that morning for the first time. There are some tips and tricks...

Where are you going in 2026?

Hey Sweeney, I just realized something. On my trip home from picking up my 560 I spent a day visiting the Badlands which was really nice. I'd like to go back again. I also took a photo of Crazy Horse from the fire lookout in Custer State Park. That's another place I spent a day and really...
