I just remembered last night that we have a couple of travel vouchers that need to be used before mid-June. So, I booked a flight to San Fran and we'll rent a car and drive to Yosemite, a place we have talked about visiting for 30+ years. I'm sure some of you people have been there and are probably willing to give some suggestions on what to see and do in the park.

We'll be there from the evening of the 26th until early on the 30th - much too short a time, but it is what it is. I'm looking at this trip as a chance to see some of the highlights.

I have found a free photography hike sponsored by the Ansel Adams group, so that will take up a couple hours one morning, which leaves us free to hike and explore the park the rest of the time. Feel free to give your must-do's.

Well, we leave in the morning for Yosemite - and there's a Winter Storm Warning for the park! The forecast is for 6-8" in the higher elevations but I don't think we'll get that in the valley. It should make for some beautiful landscapes. Maybe the next time we get out there we'll have the teardrop...

As a 2nd generation Californian married to a 5th generation Californian, I can give NO advice, as we have been there once, in the fall of 1992. We camped in the high country and explored the valley. I guess whatever is in your own backyard is never as interesting as what is elsewhere! We finally made it to Death Valley a couple of years ago, and its only a 5 hour drive......
Post pictures and your adventures to inspire us "locals' to see own state!!!!

What an awesome place!

We spent this past Memorial Day weekend in Yosemite and had a great time. Everywhere you look is unbelievably beautiful. It's their most crowded weekend, but we escaped the crowds for the most part by hiking up to a few different falls. The forecast was for a Winter Storm Warning and 8" of snow, but it turned into a beautiful weekend with highs in the upper 60's/low 70's and sunny skies. It snowed in the higher elevations one night, which added to the scenery from the valley floor.
We're already trying to figure out how we can get back with the CampInn and spend a few more days in the park, but that darn 4 day drive from Chicago eats up a lot of days off.

Re: What an awesome place!

Agree - absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Hope to visit in person some day.

Speaking of Yosemite... my dad just sent me this link. Quite an advertisement for packing up your camp-inn in early spring and heading out to California.
