Wet Chau Ram Weekend

Discussion in 'Adventures & Excursions' started by Warren Mary Ellen, Oct 21, 2019.

  1. A wet Chau Ram County Park was the scene for us to meet up with Jeremiah to meet up with David & Treva and their Oconee Belle for the weekend. This was our first time camping with other Camp Inn owners. With the weather forecast looking gloomy with the remnants of a Tropical Storm passing through, we almost had the place to ourselves. There were only 3 other sites out of 25 or so total. The four of us only live about 45 minutes away from each other and neither of us had a long trip to the campground. They made in on Thursday, but we had to teach school Friday before coming up.

David & Treva made us a nice grain bowl for dinner Friday when we arrived. With the rain starting right after breakfast Saturday and continuing all day, we pretty much were stuck under our canopies. With great company, we still had a blast hanging out. Camping with our dogs on a rainy weekend was not the best decision as we ended up with gritty sheets especially Saturday night. Sunday morning we walked down to the river for a nice walk and some photos of the scenery. Fall color was just starting, but barely. Mainly, some hickory trees and some Sourwoods with a little yellow and red right now with just a little showing. The park gets its name from combining the names of the river and a creek that flows into it. The Chauga (pronounced Chawgee) River and Ramsey Creek which has a small waterfall on it. The river can be paddled especially after a rain like this one and is a favorite with trout fisherman.

You cannot see the river from your campsite since you are at the top of a hill, but you can hear one of the rapids below.

Thanks for the pictures. Just goes to show poor weather can still be refreshingly fun in a camp inn.
