West Coast exploring

We got home Sat from a 20 day trip! tim had lots of furlough days to burn , so off we went. We did make reservations at all state parks in both CA and OR, which was good,as all but one campground was FULL. We planned a coastal only route -Up to mid-Oregon and back, sampling various parks along the way, staying 2-3 days at most locales.
We started up the coast and began at Morro Bay SP. the highlight of our first night was watching a sea otter take a "bath", then wind itself in seaweed and drift off to sleep as the sun set. From there we went to Sam. P Taylor SP just north of SF, where we camped in the redwoods for the first of many times. Then on to Prarie Creek Redwoods for 3 days before crossing into Oregon where we stayed at Bullard's Beach SP near Bandon, Beachside SP in Waldport and Harris Sp near Brookings. In CA on the way south we stayed at Patrick's Point, Salt Point, San Simeon and Gaviota State Parks. we stayed several days in each location so we could explore and relax. We are into wildlife and plants, so our highlighs included the resident grey whales off Crescent City, Northern Elephant Seals, and tufted Puffins in breeding plumge. Hiking in the redwoods, walking on cold empty beaches (NO people!) and fresh dungeness crab were but a few of the special events.
What we learned: We are glad we did not have AC. We needed the storage space for sweatshirts and more layers of clothes! The warmest day, until Santa Barbara was 62! The trailer did great in fog, rain and gale force winds!
We also learned that when choosing a bush at 2 AM, check for raccoons. They dislike being peed on.
I need to rethink some of my organization. What worked for 2-3 days, did not for 20. We had a GREAT relaxing time and love our teardrop. Oh, we are almost out of brochures!

Eileen, we also learned that there are different kinds of trips - moving every night, moving every 2 to 3 days, and staying in one place for a long time. Each one requires a different plan for packing, gear and food.

Eileen,

I wonder if this was you. I just got this picture yesterday from a customer in St Helena CA with old serial number 21 who was camping up in the redwoods and stumbled on this unattended Camp-Inn. Looks like a familiar setup?

P.S. We'll get more brochures out to you.

How great is this!!! Sorry we missed them! It sure looks like us -if the the tablecloth was visible, our is a Hawaiian blue flowered piece of oil cloth, I could be 100% positive. We have the small propane tank and side tent up on on the port side. Looks like Prairie Creek State Park? We stayed 3 nights and the first night there was a Little Guy next door. Needless to say half the campground did some comparison teardrop shopping! The Little Guy folks, who were much more visible and social than us, sent EVERYONE down to check out ours.

Eileen,
Glad you had a great time. Thanks for the report and great pictures!

Would love to hear more details on what worked/didn't work for you for a 20-day trip. We've just started planning for a 3-4 week trip to the southwest sometime next spring or summer.

Eileen,

#21 just confirmed they were at Prairie Creek State Park. Has to be you then. I sent him a link to this thread, we'll have to see what he says. I don't think he has been to the forum yet.
