Urban Camping

We just discovered a new style of camping. Lena loves to go to big cities and walk around. I like to teardrop because we sleep for free in it. So, we generally stay out of the big cities. Without planning it in advance, we had parked on the 10th floor of a parking structure in the center of downtown Portland. When we came back to the car late that night, the roof top was empty, and the security guard didn't care, so we just climbed in. I took these pictures in the morning as I began to realize what an amazing view and location we had - great price too, $5.

If you look closely, you can see our 560 in the center of the picture. (Bright silver speck on the roof of a dark grey building.) The shot was through the window of a 30th floor restaurant several blocks away.

We'll be back.

Was that a Smart Park you were in? That is a prime location with Pioneer Square right there. I am guessing the 30th floor was the Portland City Grill, no? That restaurant has the best views on a sunny day...looks like Portland weather wasn't working with you though. That is great that you were able to do that! Probably pretty safe up that high too.

Let us know next time you are in town...would love meet you in person and maybe do a walk with you guys or meet for snacks/lunch/coffee/etc.

Heheh.. Yah, I've often thought that... nice shot and nice of the sec people to let you stay... kewl...

Update: Maybe it wasn't the great idea we thought. We got run out by the police last night who said we were trespassing (by loitering near our parked car) and the officer who had let us stay the night before was off his rocker. O well... where's the nearest Wal-mart...

Actually, since the lot was run by the city we might just need to find a privately owned lot next time - if there are any - and work it out with their security.

Sarah: it was the Portland City Grill and we loved it. Next time we should hook up with your fam - if the campout doesn't come first.

My wife and I have gone camping near Seattle several times just so we can spend a couple days in the city on the cheap but I've never thought about taking it this far!
