Trash Can

We use this Stansport trash bin and are very happy with it. We store about 2 dozen trash bags in the bottom of it, and it folds down to about a 1" thick when not in use - then we put it in the bin with the frying pans.

Here are a few places that sell it:

When we want to use it, we unsnap the fasteners, and it pops up to it's full size. We keep it under the cooler table. It also has a lid that velcros shut.

That style trash can is very popular among teardroppers. :)

We use two different methods for trash. For larger group needs, like a potluck, we use a centrally located Bag-a-Lot. But for our own trash, we use a t-shirt bag (like Wal-mart style). Slide one of the bag's handles onto the wooden spring handle under the side table. It stays put, is off the ground, is easily accessed but out of the way, and we don't have a trash can to clean/store. At night (or when we leave during the day), it gets tossed, so there's no attraction for campground critters.

Evan & Lena,
Nice idea will check it out.

Betsey,
never thought about hooking the bag under the table sounds like a winner when just the 2 of us are camping. We too like to dump anything daily. We were re-using plastic grocery bags - I think they would work like a t-shirt bag.

The bagalot looked too big for our needs and I like to close the bag when not in use. I think if I use Betsy's idea and have a wooden cloths pin handy - that would work well.

Thanks,
Pat

Pat,

When we want to close the bag, we just slide the other bag handle on & it stays shut pretty well. Your clothespin idea would be good to make it a tighter closure.

BTW...if your weekend is open, feel free to come up to Pine City for a small teardrop campout. Right now, we have 7-8 teardrops attending.

Betsy,
we are still in the throws of the school year-end - so. . . sad to say no camping till the end of the month. But thanks for the invite.

Pat,
I am envious of your rose breasted grosbeak! Trade you a California quail for it!

Also -The idea of placing the trash bag in the table spring handle may work well. I tried it in the garage, so now it needs a road test.

Pat,

I understand...our last day with students is next Thursday & the last day for teachers is Friday. I'm trying to get my room packed, as I move every year with my students. It's nuts!

We'll catch up with you sometime. There is talk of a campout in southeast Minnesota, at Whitewater State Park, in July. We probably won't be there (even though it's only 90 minutes away) as we will most likely be in California at the IRG.

Have a good weekend & try to stay sane with the end of year stuff.

We use this and it works really well. Sometimes the site picnic table is too thick for it, but it works well on the front table (well I'm sure either supplied table). When packing up, I just store it on the shelf along with the collapsable dish pans and drainer, and there's still room for other "stuff"

Called - Trash-Ease 13 gallon portable trash bag holder, on Amazon.com
(in case the photo doesn't show up.....first time trying to post)
