Tin Can Tourist Rally

Just came back from a lovely weekend. Earlier this year when I was looking to fill up as many weekends as possible, I heard about "Tin Can Tourists", and on their gatherings site there was a gathering scheduled in Wisconsin (where I am) on a weekend I needed to fill. Although I didn't fit the main profile (new camper, not a vintage), I signed up anyway because I could tell they were a friendly bunch, and I didn't think they would kick me out. :)

I've made some new friends, and my instincts were right--they just love to camp and have campfire chats. It was a nice laid back weekend, a few drinks, a few shared meals, a sky lantern launch, and otherwise just new friends hanging out around a campfire.

It was the first year for this particular gathering ("It's the Place To Be", held this year at Green Acre Campground in New Auburn, WI), so it was a small turnout (as these things go), a '68 Avion, a '72 Avion, a (I forget the year) Yellowstone, and around the campfire the group determined that since I just got my 550 in April, that falls under the same time measurement as puppies and babies, so mine was "8 weeks old" :)

Sherry, I crashed a fiberglass egg rally on my way down to the DAM gathering. As Donna, the person running the rally said, it is the campers that bring us together but it is all about the people. The people were great and said that I am always welcome. I think there are very few gatherings (although I know there are some) where what you camp in will get you kicked out.

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

Glad you enjoyed meeting some Tin Can Tourists members. I think they have an informative website about small camping trailers and one that has wonderful photos of the history of camping in the good ol' US of A!! We bought some stuff on their "shopping" site! Are you ready to update your Camping Nights Pin???

Camping nights: I'm up to 16 nights so far this year! If other life events don't adjust my current plans, about mid-August I'll have 25 nights.
