About to head out on a 6 week trip, Tim decided to replace the cracked housing on our 7-pin connector. Nice. Made a little diagram of the old connector and rewired the new connector. Easy Breazy. Packed up the car, hooked up the camper, and drove about 100 yards down the road. Horrible burning plastic smell = overheated brake controller. Long story short, the the larger of the two notches on the plug was NOT at the top but actually at the bottom so the new connector was wired upside down which made the charge wire go into the brake. Luckily, the fuses did their job and there was no damage to the TV or the trailer's wiring. The weird thing was, only one of the trailer wheels was locked (found at at Camp Inn that the other one one was totally broken). Luckily, we're only about 200 miles from the factory so Tim took off the offending wheel, clipped the brake wire, and we headed north. Also had to replace the battery isolator. Still need to get a new brake controller.

Lesson learned: if you're going to replace your 7-pin connector, make sure to mark the TOP of plug before you take off the housing because getting it wrong is NOT good. Also, extra fuses and light bulbs for your TV are handy to have.

Also, Camp Inn has the best customer service...but we already knew that!
