The great outdoors!

We just got back from a great last minute, extended weekend getaway. Taking advantage of a favorable weather forecast, and some much needed respite time from our caregiving duties, we decided to give Northwest River Park a try. It is a city park, and only a 1/2 hour from where we live. We enjoyed their hiking and bike trails - several times, kayaking on the Northwest River, and trying out some new D.O. recipes. The campground was hopping on Saturday, but by late Sunday afternoon, it was only us and a group in a cabin that remained. The best part though, was that the weather was so gorgeous, that we took Bear's cue and camped without setting up our shelter. It was a totally different feel, and felt so much more like "camping"! Our little McNugit got loads of attention from some very impressed campers. We've never given so many tours or handed out so many brochures!

Sounds like a great getaway. Those last minute trips often seem to be some of the best, don't they?

Yes, I agree Ken! Spontaneity usually never fails us! That's something we are enjoying about retirement. We are working on earning our 25 night badge...almost there!!

I just realized that this thread probably belongs in the Adventures & Excursions category. Maybe Evan can move it there.

I love it when we are all alone in a camp area. It is amazing the sounds you miss when the fans or A/C or even furnaces are running. I love to sit out in the early morning smelling the air and drinking a fresh cup of coffee. If nothing is planned to pull me away, I'll build a fire as well.

Nothing like the great outdoors!
