    Safetyman,

    Welcome to the CampInn Forum.

Another resource is Marti's awnings. She has many customers, respected for the products she creates. There are others, but don't come to mind now.

    Hi, Jon

eCanopy.com has a wide varity of canopy types, styles, quality, and brands.

I have two canopies: 1 5x5' and 1 10x10. My choice was the Caravan Comercial canopies with full side walls. Both are great canopies, I find the 5x5' size works well for my situation. The 5x5 can be moved from over the galley to the side of the teardrop.

eCanopy.com has some great sale packages from time to time.

Heheh, yah Canopies... tell me about it...
I KNOW what not to get...
But glad I did for longer stays in the rain.
Pic of the 16x16 (also has side panels, clear from 2' up.
Heavy/bulky, should take 2 to put up. I did it alone, not as bad as it might look, but not something you want to do for a weekend set up..

Fun?? heheh... Well, would be with 2 or more people. but must say, sturdy and a heavy grade canvas. Ordering a 12x12 with side panels and a vent if possible...
Stay tune... (realizing none of this applies to the side tents)
    apologies..heheh..

    Nope, not really....
The hardest part was putting the canopy on the frame for the first time.

Normally, the 12x12 EZ tops I can put up <alone> in about 3 min.
This one took or will take about 10-15 max... it's just a whole lot sturdier which means it heavier so you have to do one leg at a time, simply? walk it, but shorter steps..
Real problem is that folded up and in it's carry bag (carry?? heheh, apx 98lbs) it takes up the room of 4 12x12s folded up, so very bulky.. same length about, but 4x the square end.

I'm ordering a 12x12 monster for the quality of them. Same set up, Clear side walls etc... with maybe a vent...
Fun??? heheh yah, I guess so...
    sigh...

Heading out Sat for the OLY Peninsula for 10 days.. do the loop.. finally..

The Tailgater does look like it could be used with a tear. If so, it would handle the issue of wind while cooking, too. Hmmm...

Canopies are nice if there is snow, rain or no shade and you are going to be parked in one spot for more than a couple of days. They are also helpful when you need to limit your sun exposure but still want to enjoy being outside.

Side tents offer a bit more privacy to the camping experience; provide a place for a port-a-potty, to park a wheelchair, or step in out of the elements to remove wet clothing. Also nice if you want to open your door for more air circulation (especially if you don't/can't have door screens) and are helpful should you want more room due to claustrophobic tendencies.

Although not for everyone or all camping situations, side tents & canopies do have a place if they help people feel more comfortable so they can their enjoy camping experience and be out camping more often.

Yes, canopies work well for us folks that aren't brave enough to live in our teardrops.

From what I understand and pictures I have seen, Bear has some sort of shelter over the galley consisting of pvc pipes and material. May be just one kernel, but still popcorn.

I love my canopy for 2 reasons:
    - Us red heads are allergic to the sun and it has saved us from many sunburns.
    - Cooking in torrential downpours isn't my idea of a good time. I have had to do that more times than I wanted.

We do have a Northern Breeze when we have Mick with us and bad weather is in the forecast. Otherwise I just use my REI alcove and have been very happy. I have a side tent and have only used it once. It was when Jenn was showing me how to set it up, and we just left it up for the weekend. I can see the value in it for some, but haven't figured out it's value for us right now. Different strokes for different folks!

We have all three, the NB, The side tent and the Alcove and generally will carry all three. It is just like golf, you pick the tent, or no tent that is best suited for the course. The NB is the hunker down shelter, we don’t put it up very often, but when we do, we know it was well worth dragging it around.

I have 3 teardrop tents, two like, one don't like.
The big blue tent (aka Northern Breeze) is perfect for rain, snow, sleet, hail, strong winds while camping. Wonderful product. I can manage to put it up myself.

Purchased a Kelty large sun shade last summer, used a couple times, I personally do not like it. Irritating to put up, and collects a lot of solar heat when I used it. Don't know if I will use it again.

Invested in a Pah Qua 12 x 12 for Florida trip. So far put up at parents home, haven't needed yet. Went up easy the first time.

Ah, but you recognize that there are times that a shelter will come in handy. Different folks have different reasons for using a shelter and/or a side tent. The first year I owned my trailer, my 81 year old mother came with me. Without these two pieces of equipment, she would not have been able to do so and she and I would not have some wonderful memories. Hope you make it to the NW camp out. Look forward to meeting you regardless of whether you use your homemade umbrella.

P.S. While I like birds, I have been their victim on more than one occasion. My main reason for putting a canopy over the galley.

Heheh... just seems strange that we have to "justify" having canopies..
    If it works, it works.
If it doesn't then don't use them...

I love mine and have another one on order and with side walls too...
    I Love my canopies...
    And PROUD of it...

    Geesh...
