I just realized I missed one review from my Redwoods trip in June.

We stopped in at Sunset Bay State Park, and really liked it. The bathrooms were not as updated as some we saw, but provided flushies and showers and were clean. Sites had electric and water (at least A18, the one I was in did). I found this spot a little tight to back into (in fact that might have been where my alcan kissed my bumper), but we managed and I stood there getting soaking wet, feeling quite proud. The site itself was great and felt private.

Also in the area is Shore Acres Botanical Garden and a lovely view from Cape Arago. There is also good clamming and fishing in the area as well (at least I was told there was).

We would highly recommend this campground!

    Sarah,

I love the picture at the top of your page. What kind of kayaks do you have?

I have been thinking about getting one but can't decide on inflatable vs hard shell.

Anyone else out there with recommendations, feel free to speak up.

    Thanks

    Joan

    Hi Joan,

Thanks! That was such a fun day.

They are just hard sit-a-tops that the Seattle Yacht Club has for members/family to use at one of their outstations. Laddy wanted to kayak so badly, but I wasn't sure he would be able to manage the paddles (they were pretty big for him). At first I took him on a lap in his own boat to practice his balancing (his boat was tied to mine and no paddles). The next lap I gave him a paddle to use and practice, but he was still tied to me. After that, we untied him and let him have at it. He was doing great and had it figured out. It was really fun...takes after his dad! Mick has been kayaking for 25 years, at least!

There is a surf/kayak shop on Macadam that lets you rent boats and SUP's (that's what I would like to do more of). You might check them out. You could try things before buying. I liked these boats though

    Joan,

You can get into an inflatable for about $100. (Oh wait, did you want paddles with that too...?) If you really like it, you can step up. Nice thing about an inflatable is it will fit in a box on your back seat.
