Successful first trip

Pick up of our 550 special and our trip home went great.

Spent Wed 10/19 in Black River Falls, Wi visiting relatives then Thurs morning short hour drive to Necedah for pick up and orientation with Cary. Orientation went pretty quick since we don't have a lot of options like air or furnace or propane or water for that matter (we like it simple).

After leaving Necedah around 12:30 we drove about 5 hours to Starved Rock State Park, Il. Didn't get to do much since it was late. Drove into Utica that night for dinner. Great little town with great eats. Got down below 30 degrees that night but we were comfortable with a down comforter and small 200 watt space heater (Lasko MY HEAT ceramic heater, about 6"x 6") that we used just to heat up trailer before bed.

Friday headed to Beaver Dam State Park, Il. and got in about 1 pm. Nice park that filled up quickly. It's a little NE of St. Louis and apparently popular with nice fishing lake and hiking trails.Enjoyed nice campfire.

Sat. we made it to Lake of the Ozarks State Park, Mo. early afternoon. Big park, kind of spread out, have to drive to hiking trail heads. Would be great place to explore with a boat.

Sunday found us in Devil's Den State Park, Ar. just south of Fayetteville. Very poular park with locals and many were there enjoying a sunny 70 degree Sunday afternoon. There are numerous hiking trails, horseback riding trails and championship mountain bike trails. We stayed in a loop mostly for tenters with no electric and there were only 4 or 5 others in the whole loop.

Then it was home to Texas on Monday. A great 4 night 1281 mile trip with great weather (no rain) and only minor mishaps. Once we didn't get the plug in securely apparently and it dragged the ground but still worked afterwards. The last day I didn't get the fan vent closed tight enough and it opened up.

When we got home I gave it a bath and put some Woody's Wax on and it looks like new.

The trailer was everything we had hoped it would be. Very easy to tow and set up and take down is so fast compared to tent camping. Once we get a little more organized it will be even better. And the quality of the trailer is hard to beat.

We can't wait to get back out again!!

Rob and Terri,
congratulations - "we can't wait to get back out again!" I know the feeling but being in Minnesota - it will be quite a wait unless the roads are relatively dry in Dec. and we can spend Christmas Vacation in Rockport, TX a favorite of our.
