Another great campground, near Utica, IL, along the Illinois River about 90 minutes from Chicago. There are 18 canyons carved into the sandstone bluffs that offer great hiking opportunities. The campground has been redone in the last few years. There's also a beautiful stone and log lodge built in the 30's.

The Land of Lincoln & St. Croix Tearjerkers had a combined gathering at Starved Rock last August. It was the first for the LOL chapter. Starved Rock is a very nice park.

So far this year, LOL & St.Croix have a combined gathering scheduled at Kankakee State Park in Bourbonnais, IL June 25-27 & another one at Rock Cut State Park in Love's Park, IL Aug 20-22.

    Betsey,
We haven't camped @ Starved Rock for a few years, but we probably hike there a half dozen times a year. I did see the Tearjerkers schedule - we won't be available for the Kankakee trip but may make the Rock Cut outing. We've never been there, have you?

Here's a shot from one of our winter hikes in Starved Rock SP:

    Ken,

I've not been to Rock Cut but a good teardrop friend (and Camp-Inn wannabee-some-day-owner) who, up until recently, lived in Loves Park, has camped there many times (probably because it was literally in his back yard) :D . I hear it's very nice.

I doubt we will make the Rock Cut gathering as that is around the time of our annual family reunion in north central Minnesota. But we are hoping to be at Kankakee.

    Betsey,

If we call it "Ice" in Illinois what do you call it in Wisconsin?

There's a saying in Illinois that if you can ski here (ice) you can ski anywhere.
