Once upon a time I remember posting something about camping in the Raindrop and being concerned about bears. Well, I found something that looks pretty interesting - I've even seen it on National Geographic channel. Here's the link:

I've actually seen two black bears this year which is quite unusual for me. One was in Yosemite across the Merced river at Cathedral Beach. He took off before I could get a photo. The second one was just down the road from my campsite in Klamath on my recent trip. I was driving back from the big lookout over the beach and as I came around the bend he was trotting along in front of me. Before I could even reach for my phone he darted left in the brush not to be seen again.

Now, this fellow was quite the ham. I and others found him literally a few feet off the trail in Yosemite just above Mirror Lake a few years back. He was busy feeding on bugs and spent at least 5-6 minutes splitting logs, eating, and just wandering in circles before settling into this pose. It's not a great photo but I was always afraid he would run off before I got any good photos and as such I rushed way too much.

I have a trip planned for Yellowstone and the Tetons this fall. I'm really hoping to see and photograph some wildlife including some grizzlies.

Yeah, he’s a black bear regardless of color. There are no grizzlies in California. He was pretty good size and traveling alone so I’d say adult.

We have encountered several black bears in the Ocala National Forrest in Florida. As recently as last month in Salt Springs.
