Side Tent Side Tent

Hi!

Does anyone use their side tent to take showers? Just wondering as I don't believe the floor would drain accumulated water. Any thoughts related to this? Thanks!

Diane

There is a floor in it and unless you wanted to put a hole in it (or disassemble half of it to drain), I think a different tent (maybe a pop up variety?) would be a better option.

I've used this one several times... (usually where I'm camping, they have one or I figure I'm good for 2-3 days) but?? just in case... These are nice. Put up next to your door and it's plenty of room. I has all the necessary shower mods, hole for hose, netted bottom side panels for drainage, netted holding bags etc...

Not recommended for 1 or 2 nights since to me, it's a little hard to put up, but actually isn't. Every piece is color taped so you match the yellow with the yellow connectors. I did have it blow over several times in strong winds but it does have anchor guy-lines, I just never bother to put them up.

The other Pyramid ones are quick & easy to put up, but a real PITA to fold back in. I went through 3 of these and finally just figured out it's not for me. heheh.. you have to twist it a certain way. Like a Mech test, some get it, some don't... I don't...

The big ones though have plenty of room and get those little wooden folding shower things, 2, for standing one. Works like a charm...

Fun...

... also, add this for the hot water, hook up to the TD and run the hose through the shower opening...

Tried it once, work kewl, better than the Coleman big green Machine...

We use a 12 volt portable shower by Ring Automotive. It's just a submersible pump that you stick down in a bucket. There is a battery option (4 D cells) or you can run it on 12 volt. A 12 volt extension cord may be handy. We haven't tried the battery option yet. $36.95 on Amazon.

We shower in the alcove with both windwalls in place. If the drain water needs to go elsewhere, we stand in a Hefty plastic bin while we shower. The same bin that all the shower stuff is stored in. So theoretically one could shower in the side tent in a bin.

We get our hot water from a solar camp shower bag or from heating water on the stove. A gallon or so of near boiling water mixed with room temp water is usually about right.

Biodegradable soap only, please.

If we were EVER to camp somewhere where there were no showers or streams, rivers, lakes or an ocean...
We would be so deep in the woods that wet wipes and dry shampoo would suffice!
Nice to see a post from you AsheWolf.

Yah, whatever one does, not sure with today's "Green" environment that letting shower soap, biodegradable or not, might get some stares...

Just something to think about...

Diane,

I have a CI side tent that I use for dressing and setup a Cleanwaste / PETT folding potty in it
when I camp with my son (he has IBS). The CI side tent is big enough for dressing and sponge/baby-wipe baths.
The Cleanwaste privacy tent I saw looked small to me, even for dressing.

For showering in campgrounds without, I got the Cabela's (Delux) Shower Tent before Christmas 2012.
It seems like it was the Gander Mountain Guide Series Camp Shower but both companies have discontinued it.
I see just a couple of the Gander Showers on Ebay.

It appears the Texport Deluxe Camp Shower is basically the same thing but with a detachable floor.

I bring or loan it when group camping and when in a large gathering/festival where porta-potty
capacity may be exceeded, making it handy for your folks to have a private one.
The nice features:
= ripstop floor keeps you out of worst of the grass/mud.
= about 4" of Mesh around bottom for drainage and ventilation
= 4'x4'x7'4" means even at 6'4" I can turn, shampoo and put on a tee shirt freely
= top is mostly screen mesh with a spaced "mushroom cap" rainfly for good ventilation.
. if under shade the fly could be left off for outdoor like ventilation
= a waterproof compartment for TP in the hanging mesh shampoo shelves
= a bar for towel and clothes hangs outside either of the zippered shoulder high covered/screen windows
= corded frame poles, hubs, and hook tabs for fast setup

About the only drawback is the 5 gallon black solar shower bag.
It IS included and the strong tent frame will SUPPORT it unlike lighter shelters,
but that gets low enough you will need to SIT under it.
I suggest either putting the bag on top of an adjacent SUV like Mick'nSarah's system or one can
get a water heater like the Coleman from CampInn (w pump) or the Triton heater Frank mentioned
which uses the side propane port and hose connector from the trailer's pressurized cold water.

Someone posted about this one from lightspeed the other day...looks quite interesting.

Perhaps with some slight modifications, it would be a good side tent option as well.

Quick and easy to set up/take down.

It does indeed work just as easy as the video. Your floor mats look like a perfect fit too. I've been considering a wooden pallet type floor even though the tent floor should work fine. The mat would be much more portable;

I don't recall exactly where we got them...costco I think. However, it looks like this might be the same one...

Heck, you could easily store it under the mattress so it was not in the way.
