Sandhills Labor Day Weekend

Found our way to Lee State Park on Friday to be in the Sandhills of South Carolina for the holiday weekend. Our main reason for going to this park, besides it is one of favorites for camping, was to attend the Southern 500 NASCAR race in nearby Darlington. Friday and Saturday were lazy days at the park with unusually mild weather for Labor Day weekend in SC. We were able to camp without the AC all 3 nights which was nice with first night getting into the 50s. Also, we had the best site in the campground, Site 4. Lots of shade, roomy, and not too close to any other campsites.

Found a good BBQ place (Smoke Pit BBQ) in nearby Bishopville and in this part of the state you get hash and rice with your meal. Don't ask what it is, just eat it. It's delicious. Drove down by the Lynches River and to the wetlands. Not much wildlife this time. except we could see one otter pretty far out. On Sunday morning, an owl woke me hooting and we found some feathers in the morning in our site. This campground does have some horse stalls in it and this time there were 8 horses there.

Sunday was at the track in Darlington for both a Truck race and the NASCAR cup race that night. Had great weather for it and look forward to returning next year. The pandemic has postponed this for a year. Our tickets were for the 2020 race but we were able to defer them to 2021.

Warren & Mary...very nice . It looks like a great weekend. Heck anytime with family is a good weekend.

 

Yes and this may be one the last trips with our daughter for a while. She is looking for her first job out of college and looking to move away from SC.
