Battery Room For 2 Batteries?

drjenk

Newbie
Hi,
Is there room for a couple batteries to be wired in parallel? I saw another thread where someone had wired up a switch, to choose between the internal one and one wired externally when needed, which would work too.

Thanks

We have 3 parallel batteries, Evan has 4. Depends on which model you have. On the 550s, there isn't enough room for the battery boxes like Mick and Evan built. There was room on the 560s, but I heard something where that might not be the case anymore.

Sarah,

That is correct, it has not been possible for several years now since eliminating the small battery version. The large battery that is standard generally solves the need for extra battery solutions.

Dave,

No, there is no room to add any more battery than is the standard. If more battery is needed an external solution like discussed on the forum would be needed. Contact us via email with your load needs so we can determine your run time calculations.

Dave,

I went with an outside source i.e. a heavy duty 200 amp hours battery that I carry with me if needed. I had 4 12v external plug outlets put on the lower quarter panel (under the table) in the same battery compartment and just plug it in. You need an isolater etc, but it works fine.

Sorry, no pics yet, I thought I had them, might be on the forum somewhere...

When not in use, I trickle charge it at home. It's heavy, but helps the cause. Next stop would be Solar...

Sarah, SnuggleBug has 5 batteries (not 4) and is now deeply offended. I suggest that you bring your waubernizing kit to Mossyrock to make it up to her...

Do we have 4 then? I have no clue and I always think you have 4 and I thought you added one more than we did. Was it two?

Sigh, I am sorry Snugglebug. You will have to ask Mick to pay for my sin since he is the Walbernizer in our house hold.

You have 3 because Mick made 1 extra box with 2 extra batteries. SnuggleBug has 5 because I made 2 extra boxes and because I'm evil that way.

1 battery does us easy for 3 days with lots of TV, a dometic cf35, and lights and not economizing at all, a solar panel would extend that I'm sure.

We rarely stay more than that at a single place, so our tow vehicle will charge the battery...and frankly, everyplace we've stayed so far has had power. It's never been a problem. Because of our location, state parks are about our best option...were lucky to have 3 good ones, and 1 great one just a short drive away from us.

I will say, the funniest thing that happened on my first solo trip was when the power went out, my battery kept everything I had on, on. And the rolling wave of "grr....awh..." That swept from one side of the campground to the other made me laugh, then take another sip while enjoying the night air and watching a DVD.

Of course none of this applies if your lucky enough to have boondocking in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors around you :)

How do you rate our state parks,in order? I know you like Brown County what are the other three? I'm in Franklin so Brown is a short drive. Not getting my trailer until August so state parks will be big on my list this year.

We like Pokagon, near Angola. Turkey Run is excellent. After those, there is Indiana Dunes near Valparaiso, Clifty Falls near Madison, Potato Creek south of South Bend, to name a few. Tippecanoe and Raccoon Lake are also great...

Hi ! I've been looking to add more electrical capacity to our 550 so we could stay longer at campsites without electric. We've a nice solar panel but enjoy camping in the shade so thought an external 120AH battery might be fine for our needs. I see that forum members have already done things like that. I'm curious about the specifics, though, before I start work on the modifications. What is the "isolator" about ? What kind of connectors used? Wired in parallel to existing battery ? Selector switches? Would greatly appreciate any information to get started.
