Mattress Questions About The Bed

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Cary looking at the internal photographs of Bobs 560 the door is level with the head area of the bed. on a 550 you seem to get more room at the Head end (pictures on Alan's web site). Does the bed on the 560 stretch further under the internal cabinets to make up for this?

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Barry and Anne,

I think I understand what you are seeing. This would be the same thing Hilditch and Jean were talking about in Ken's thread this morning if it is.

The mattresses are the same between the models. The bed size is the same and the area under the cabinetry is the same. What is different is the doors are 9" further forward on a 560. This is because the trailer is longer and the axle and fenders are further forward accordingly. When you sit down on the bed through the doorway on a 550 you are just under your pillow. When you sit down on the bed of a 560 you kind of sit on your pillow a bit. This is a small detail on a 560 that bugs me a little but using one I found it not to matter to me when getting in and out.

For our taller customers the 560 has one advantage here. You can collapse down the sofa making it flush with the mattress. In this position you end up with a 8' long bed instead of just the 6' 6" mattress in the 560 and 550.

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Thanks Cary
I have this Impression that im at a gas station and everyone goes wow can I have a look and I want to open the door and the bed is made up and it looks cosy and cool. I have seen many pictures on various teardrop sites that show the inside like this but I have never been able to find a picture of a 560 with the bed made up and the couch still in the seating position,
Does any one have one to share?

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

We do all of our traveling with the gear on the bed, so no pictures like you are asking for. Somebody must have one, if not, I'll take one for you.

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Thanks for the link. How do you find the transition between the bench and the mattress? I notice you use a mattress topper so this must take up any difference. I always hated sleeping on trailer seats that converted to a bed as my limbs would always find the gap between the cushions.

I love the grill (Turbo Sport) in your pictures where did you get it. Looks like you shut the lid and all the mess with it plus nice and flat to store with stuff on top. I hate these grills with rounded tops and a handle on top and each end they take up to much room when traveling. Does your on connect to the trailer as well?

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Hi Barry $ Annie,

We have two " Queen Size " mattress pads seen in the photo; One is thin, the other much thicker. I use two rolled-up extra large " Beach Towels " between the transition gap, but anything would work.

Here's my bedding set-up:
1. Queen size, white thin Mattress Pad (seen in photo)
2. Queen size, white thick Matress Pad (seen in photo)
3. Queen size , thick Down Feather Mattress Pad (my girfriend wants to add another)
4. Queen size Sheets / 4-Pillows & cases (we carry 1 Extra set)
5. Down Feather Comforter with cover (duvet??)
6. Quilted Moving pad over everything (seen in photo)
7. Small Blue & white Throw Blanket (seen in photo)

I picked-up the " Turbo Grill " a few back from " BBQ Galore ", along with a black cloth carrying case. I'm not sure if they make/sell that same model anymore (??).

I'm using a separate portable (20lbs)tank, for the " BBQ / Propane Lantern " & eventually the Yamaha Generator. But, I can connect it directly to the " Raindrop " using the correct hose & attachments.

Personally, I just sleep on top of everything and use my " Quilted Pad " as a blanket.
But honestly .. All you really need is one thick mattress pad for additional comfort & two good Sleeping bags, with pillows!!

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Or in our 550 we have:

1. A thin mattress pad.
2. A set of queen sheets.
3. A summer weight cotton quilt OR a Hudson Bay 4 point.

We sleep between the sheets.

Hilditch

PS: We carry nothing on the bed so we can show it off at the gas station. Our first week out we were filling up with gas and this guy came RUNNING over from 4 lanes down with this big GD grin on his face yelling: "I love it! What is it?" It's in the guarantee.

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Now theres a big difference in bed making set ups between you two guys.

Thanks for the feedback

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Since folks are talking bedding, I am curious what folks use on the bunks in the 560? Does a regular crib sheet fit? What do you use there?

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Well, the major reason for my getting a " Raindrop "... !

I hated sleeping on the " Cold, HARD " (rain/wet?) ground , whenever I went Tent Camping ) :

I'm now sleeping on one " Big Soft Pillow " ( :

But truthfully, I live in California. They (Govt)keep reminding the general public, that the " Next Big Earthquake "..is long overdue !

I've lived thru & experienced a few major disurbances within my lifetime(L.A. Area: Earthquakes / Riots/Fire evacuation/Red Cross Shelters etc).

So , I do tend to overpack, might have to live out of my Car & " Teardrop " for weeks, or months at a time..?,

Disaster planning, good idea. Hmmm, new advetising campaign for other TD manufacturers? Let me know when the "Big One" is coming, I will be sure to stay far away and shut off the TV then.

Good call you can never be prepared enough and more often than not most of us are not. We have Earle coming our way this weekend and he may or may not hit Nova Scotia as a Hurricane. We have time to prepare but I would not have time to prepare if my wooded sub division caught fire.

Thankfully we don't get Earthquakes.

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Thats alot of stuff. Wouldn't it be easier just to pack a couple sleeping bags? The horse blanket is good to protect your bed from stuff packed on top. I can see mattress cover, and thin pad,and sheets but all those blankets whew!

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Well, George,

There's my " Emergency Vehicle ", equipt with a 4-season Tent, Down Sleeping Bag & Hi Tech Pad, which I keep packed & haul around everyday (24-7). I could set-up anywhere,(Hunt/ Fish)live off the land, etc.

And now ,... there's my " Deluxe Soft Vacation Bed ".

Hey,I love that horse blanket(my Blankie). It reminds me of my youth,.. when I couldn't afford a decent " Tent or Sleeping Bag "..

Just my personal preference to sleep in comfort @ this point in my life.

Re: Camp-Inn #348 Underway!

Thanks for the pictures L.M and yes it does seem like a lot of stuff but on the other hand depending on where and when you go and the type of terrain it may not be enough.
