Fridge / Cooler Question On Cooler/refrigerator

Hello All,

Sorry for all the questions, trying to figure all this out.

For those using the DC or AC/DC refrigerator option...does it fit in the same place as the 54qt. cooler normally goes? are they the same dimension?

If not, do you put it inside the CI while traveling and put the cooler in the normal spot?

Thanks,
Jay

I have the Dometic CF-35 AC/DC fridge, and it goes in the cooler spot, IF you remove the default handles and replace them with straps. http://www.campinnforum.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=15253&page=1
Otherwise it doesn't fit. and you'll want "the hockey stick" accessory from Camp-Inn

But you don't "have to" have the fridge there. I know a couple people keep it in their tow vehicle anyway; because if they are traveling far, the TV is usually air conditioned and the galley isn't--it allows the fridge to work better. Also means a cool drink available in the car. :)

I have heard so many good comments about the fridge that I decided I couldn't live without it. If I go for a week I usually take three ice chests and this will give me one that I don't have to worry about getting ice for. In fact it seems like I will have very little to worry about with my new teardrop. lol
Spring is getting closer. It stays light till after five o'clock now.

You will be pleased with the fridge. Look up the post about the custom straps for replacing the handles.

Definitely, the cf35 was an awesome buy (we got it at camping world on mega sale) and the custom handles hack is simply the bomb! I wouldn't go out with an ice chest again, except to carry canned (ahem) root beer,

As a kid my worst camping memories are salami sammiches that were pulled from an ice chest....soggy yuk.

The only drawback is you need to pack the cf35 smart....Meat and stuff you want really cold on the bottom, to stuff you want sorta cold on top. We can easily take 3 or 4 days with us in ours. We've never had a problem, but packing it has a little but of a learning curve.

Nows a good time. Just got a flyer from camping world...they've got 190 off the dometic CF35....now is the time to buy if you're on the fence...

I bought the Dometic CF-35 from AdventurRV.NET about two weeks ago for $529.00. Be sure to check around.

Keep in mind that if you are in one location for a week, the TD battery (which powers the fridge) will not last a week powering the fridge. You'll need solar, or a generator, or run the car for hours, or....more ice

OK, I bought a Dometic Fridge. I customized the handles as described. It fits in the space if I have the flatter 12volt plug attached, but if I try to slide it into the space with the 110 volt plug, it sticks out too far to get it in there without forcing it.

Is this what the hockey stick thingy is for? And where do I find one? I looked at the Camp-Inn site and didn't see them for sale.

I am curious - Why would you plug it in with the 110 volt plug?

When we are at home, the TD is plugged in to the 110, and the fridge is unplugged until the night before camping. We then load the fridge with food and plug it in to the TD with the 12 volt plug.

When camping, we plug the fridge in to the 12 volt plug, whether the TD is connected to shore power or not.

We never use the AC plug. Maybe I am doing something wrong....

Get yourself a plug like this: angled plug. We will us 110 if we plug in at the camp ground or sometimes not, I am not sure it really matters unless you draining the battery faster than you charge it.

Al, we do the same thing. 110 at home to cool it down before loading and 12v in the trailer or if attached to my portable battery back up (which only happens when the trailer batteries are low and I am not able to plug in).

This begs the question, though: WHY would you need such a plug?

The only reason I can think of is if you plug the fridge into shore power while you are camping, and you want to store the fridge in the TD kitchen hatch.

But I don't know why we would do that rather than keep the fridge plugged in to the 12V (while the TD is lugged in to shore power).

Am I missing some battery management issue, or something?

I guess we might want to NOT plug the fridge into the 12V if the goal is to charge the TD battery as quickly as possible, and the drain on the battery from also having the fridge plugged in to the 12V will slow down the battery recharge. IN that instance, I am not sure whether it would matter if the fridge would get plugged in, using an AC plug, to the TD or to the shore power "directly" - but it wouldn't get plugged in with the 12V plug.

But I would think this would only matter if you only had a couple of hours to charge your battery. If you had all night, I don't think having the fridge running off the battery would be an issue wrt recharging the battery. Maybe if you were also running an electric heater, plus lights plus television?

Thanks for the intelligent answers to my question which was less so. I knew there would be some AC/DC experts on here…

Now, how about the hockey stick thingy?

Regarding the hockey stick. Don't waste your money. It is just a piece of wood in the shape of a hockey stick to use as a spacer to keep the refrigerator from moving around. You could easily make one yourself.

If you make some strap handles for the refrigerator all you then need is a couple pieces of scrap wood for your spacer.

hahaha - I'm no expert

and your question was perfectly fine and intelligent - no worries!

I just noticed that the Dometic was redesigned, let us know if you get the new version and if it still fits the Campinn galley. The handles look different.
