PA State Park Pine Grove Furnace State Park

This park is near Gardners, PA, about 40 minutes from the Blue Mountain exit off of the PA Turnpike.

Spent three nights here this past weekend.

The sites are very spacious, quite level, and shaded. There were 2 pull through sites and the rest were back in.

There are about 50 electric sites and about 20 nonelectric, tent sites. The tent sites are not usable for a camper because they tend to be on a hill side with a level tent platform and not enough room to back in a camper. There are water hydrants scattered throughout the campground so that you are never really far from a place to get water to refill your tank. There is also a dump station on the way out of the campground.

There are two restroom facilities but showers are only in the one near the entrance. There were three shower stalls. The restroom without showers has 4 separate 'family style' rooms. So there was a line for a room first thing in the morning and around bed time. The restrooms were both recently rebuilt so they were nice.

Lots of kids and their noise on Friday and Saturday but Sunday afternoon/evening was so peaceful that a deer wandered through the campground.

This park's claim to fame is that it contains the halfway point on the Appalachian Trail. There is a neat little museum about the AT on site. There is also a camp store that has ice cream. There are several trails around the campground that are very pleasant.
