Our First One Night Stand

John & Jodi

Novice
This past weekend, we took The Caboose out for a one night stand at Joint Base San Antonio's Sunny Side recreation area in Canyon Lake, TX. Highlights of lessons learned:
  • Our initial checklists are bloodied from all the red ink as we made changes and filled in the missing steps. It will be interesting to see how Version 2 does.
  • Our 14-year old chihuahua (Roxy) is a fair-weather, indoor dog. She was totally non-plussed by the whole outdoor, excursion thing.
  • The galley set-up was a rousing success.
    • Pre-plan all meals and snacks
    • Dishwashing is easier than we thought
    • Now we know where we want to put hooks, paper towels, mirror, etc.
  • The jacks have grease on them! After putting the jacks down, we wore the grease like the trophy badge it was. And we were thankful that nothing was leaking once we figured out what that stuff was.
  • Leave the running lights of the teardrop on when it is in tow. In a nod to Snudley, we also had the 7-pin connector come loose and disconnect itself from the tow vehicle. However, a frantic couple let us know about 3 miles from the house that something was dragging. We pulled over, reconnected the pin, op-checked all lights, and vowed to leave the lights running from then on.
Even though it was only one night, it felt good to be unhurried. We enjoyed sitting with our feet up, meandering by the lake, and eating breakfast this morning with the deer, chickadees, and scrubjays. However, the black vulture that came and watched us like a centurion from the nearby light post was a little disconcerting.

Already planning the next trip...

Ha! That vulture was probably disappointed that it wasn't a canned ham he spied from above!

Sounds like a great outing and a lot of experiences for one night. ️
