Ok, I hate to ask, BUT

I've looked everywhere in the forums and can't find what I'm looking for even though I know it's been discussed:

1. How to lock the Raindrop to keep it from being stolen
What type of lock, how much, and where to get it?

2. Eureka Tent to back the Raindrop into? I want the one that has side flaps that can go up or down and be screened all around 3 sides. Does it have flooring and I want to keep the rain out on a rainy day. Please tell me where to get it at the best price if you can - a link would be wonderful!

3. Large rug in front of the kitchen - what do you use? I want something sturdy but light weight, mildew proof, etc.

4. Side rugs - same thing - what do you use and how much were they?

5. Where do you put your shoes at night? I'm thinking on the wooden shower pallet someone mentioned. I really like being able to keep them off the ground in case of rain and also under the trailer for the same reason - of course the side tent would work too...

If I think of anything else you can rest assured I won't hesitate to ask, but ONLY after trying to find the answers here first - I know these things have been talked about as I've said, but I can't FIND it anywhere! Thanks!

Congratulations on that new Raindrop, ladymc!!

We are still newbies at this but I hope this helps.

1. hitch locks can be purchased @ Walmart in their automotive section. I'll let others chime in about what type.

2.http://www.amazon.com/Eureka-Northern-Breeze-Screen-Awning/dp/B000EQAUDW
We love ours! Held up very well in wind and rain, when it was guyed down at the corners. Add a Mr Buddy propane heater, roll down the sides, and you'll keep toasty warm on those cold, wet days.

3. I've seen big woven vinyl rugs @ WalMart in their automotive/rv section. We haven't purchased one, although we have two smaller ones we keep rolled up in the front storage compartment, just in case. Not sure they are worth the trouble if they get muddy, and you have to pack them.

4. We are using two heavy rubber automotive floor mats for in front of the doors. Works well for us, and they store easily, when rolled up, in the front compartment.

5. As for shoes, we keep ours in plastic shoe boxes with lids, and slide them under the trailer @ night. Keeps the creepy crawlies out of them!

1. The set by Brinks includes every lock necessary to fully secure your trailer and two additional standard padlocks. All locks are keyed the same. The set costs about $35.

3 & 4. The large rug in front of the kitchen is called an RV mat. They have no problem in mud or water - just hose them off. We got ours for about $80 at Camping World, and it also came with a small 2' x 3' that we use in front of the door. This is probably the same style of rug that Jim & Jamie said is at Wal-Mart.

5. Put the shows in a plastic bin and slide the bin under the trailer. In freezing cold weather we sometimes put the shoe bins in the front compartment to keep them from being frozen in the morning.

We have a "camping rug" similar to Evans. It was given as a birthday gift to me from some very dear teardrop friends, some of whom are on this forum :) It folds into thirds & then accordion folds. I bought a waterproof duffel bag that it fits into very nicely, so if it is dirty/muddy, it won't get everything else dirty. Bag is washable.

As far as shoes, it depends on when & where we are camping. If we use the side tent, they are kept in there. If we don't use the side tent & we are camping around our area of the Midwest & it's warm/good weather, we just turn them upside down & put them on the fenders. Otherwise, we keep them inside the cabin. When camping in other areas of the country, if I wanted to keep them outside, I would put them in a container, like Evan said. I am really not wanting to find a scorpion, snake or other cuddly little critter taking up residence in them.

We also use a tire claw. Since ours is parked in front of our house, we wanted to make it look even harder to take. It is bright orange, so folks would see it. Just a little more peace of mind. We also have the locks set.

I like the plastic box with lid idea for the shoes - didn't think of "crawly critters" inside the shoes! Thanks McNugit & Evan

I bought the locks from Amazon.com - on sale for $33.00, normally over $80 and it was free shipping! Thanks Evan!

Question McNugit: Does the Eureka tent have a floor?

Shoes, used to keep them under but somewhere, somehow rain drain dripped into them.. now, if going to rain.. like always? I got a simple little Wash tub, put them in there and then put the tub on the forward shelf.. works fine, just open the door, take one out, put it on then the other one while sitting door opened.

With all the theft talk on the trailers, my husband Bill had a thought. He was wondering if a GPS chip could be added to the trailer (anti-theft device) like a car can sometimes have. Any suggestions there folks? I know the people who lost their Tear on another forum probably wishes they had something like that.

Hi ladymc,

There is a store in town here called I Spy which sells a GPS chip that can be installed inconspicuously for tracking trailers or whatever in case of thief. I haven't been there yet to check pricing.

Regarding a wheel lock, unless it covers the lug nuts a thief can just remove the wheel and slap on another one and drive off with the trailer. Even if you have a lock on the ball connector they will hook up a chain and drive off with the trailer. I was told this by a person in the RV business who says small trailers are being stolen at an alarming rate. He suggested chaining the trailer up.

So, I'm thinking of using a heavy duty chain that I would run through both wheels and lock to a tree, picnic table, post or whatever. I'll use something to cover the wheel spokes where I thread the chain through to keep from scratching them. This will only be used when I plan to be away from my trailer for an extended period. It's a bit of trouble to do, but if it prevents thief it will be worth it.

Can't they just cut the chain? Maybe we all just need to drag them around with us wherever we go! I'm interested in the GPS locator though - if the price is right.

The tent doesn't come with a floor, but there is one available that fastens to the tent, that you can purchase separately. We don't have one.
Also, about shoes- don't know if you own a pair of Crocs, but they are terrific for wearing around the campsite, and for using as a shower shoe too. We don't go anywhere without them!! As Betsey suggested, I also lay them upside down on the fender overnight. Speaking of fenders, check out our fender shelves:

Another shoe idea: I bought shoe bags from amazon. They are black nylon type material and hold a pair of shoes (running shoe size). I put my shoes in them and hang them on the hook inside the cabin door. That keeps them dry, warm, bug free. I shake the sand out of the bag in the morning and they take up next to no room when packing.
I think I have pictures of our Eureka screen tent in the photo area.

True, chains can be cut. That's why I specified a heavy duty chain. One which is case hardened and is very difficult to cut. It can't be cut with ordinary bolt cutters.

The concealable GPS device is available though. I'm going to check on the price at the local store I mentioned. Probably can find them on the internet too.

I apologize for the negativity my replies have brought in answer to your question on locks. Camping and teardrops are all about fun and good times. However, the distasteful and unpleasant realities cannot be ignored either. My thoughts go back to the old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

There is a GPS type device sold by a company called ANYTRACK that sells the device for $279. You also need to purchase a service contract for around $130 per year. If heaven forbid your trailer is stolen the company will track and report the location to you. The system uses SRINT cell towers to do the tracking not true GPS. I know several contractors that use the service on generators and other expensive equipment used on job sites and they work. Some states are also mandated to give an insurance discount on anti theft devices so that would bring the anual cost down.

Hutch,
No need for apologies - I found out it was a dumb question. My husband and I discussed it today and he told me the same thing you did about the steel not being able to be cut with bolt cutters. That's a great relief!

LeoJan:
Thanks for the input - a bit pricey right now but if it were ever stolen it would be cheap - so I'll let the hubby make the final decision on it. I'll ck. it out with the insurance company too - thanks for the heads up!
